Ford is delaying its next-gen electric three-row SUV and truck

Ford is delaying the release of its electric three-row SUV until 2027, the company announced in an update. It will also begin work on its next electric truck in 2026 and will offer hybrid options for every model it has in production. The unnamed SUV was supposed to go into production starting in 2025 at Ford’s plant in Oakville, Ontario, which is currently in the midst of pivoting from gas-car production to EVs. Ford gave several reasons for the delay, including a desire to wait until the three-row SUV market matures before introducing its own entrant. “The additional time will allow for the consumer market for three-row EVs to further develop and enable Ford to take advantage of emerging battery technology, with the goal to provide customers increased durability and better value,” the company said.   The unnamed SUV was supposed to go into production starting in 2025 While there are over 100 electric models available for sale in the US, very few of them are three-row SUVs, despite their popularity with families. The Tesla Model …

Wrestling national trials: How Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dahiya – Tokyo medalists – were stunned as Next-Gen steps up on day of upsets | Sport-others News

Three times Rohit bent down and touched Bajrang Punia’s feet after he had defeated the knackered-out Olympic bronze medalist 9-3. Rohit, a former national champion in the 65 kg category, did not gloat over the big win. The Bajrang he fought during the national trials on Sunday wasn’t the force he once was, Rohit voiced. “The last time I competed against him, Bajrang was strong and fast. Today was different,” Rohit said after his first win over Bajrang. Sunday was a day of upsets at the wrestling national trials at SAI Sonipat. Bajrang’s loss to go with Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi Dahiya’s and the next generation stepping up to represent India in Asian and World Olympic qualifiers was also the storyline of the trials. Rohit will remember the day as being bitter-sweet. His loss in the final to the current national champion Sujeet Kalkal, the under 23 Asian champion, was a setback. There was also a passing of the baton between two Chhatrasal trainees in the 57 kg. Aman Sehrawat, a star-in-the-making, beat Dahiya …

Next-Gen Xbox Will Be the ‘Largest Technical Leap’ for a New Console Generation, Says Microsoft

Microsoft shared new details about its plans for Xbox hardware, teasing the next generation of Xbox consoles and providing updates about its gaming business in a special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast Thursday. While the company confirmed that four Xbox-exclusive games would launch on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, it reiterated its commitment to developing Xbox hardware and exclusives titles on the platform. In the podcast, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that Microsoft was focussed on delivering the “largest technical leap” for a new console generation for the next Xbox. Bond also confirmed that fans could expect new Xbox hardware later this year in the holiday season — likely to be the rumoured mid-generation refresh of the Xbox Series S/X consoles. “There’s some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we’re going to share this holiday. And we’re also invested in the next generation roadmap,” the Xbox president said. “And what we’re really focussed on there is delivering the largest technical leap you will have seen in a hardware generation,” she added. Xbox currently offers …

Tesla warns of sales growth slowdown as it prepares for next-gen launch in late 2025

Tesla reported earnings of $7.9 billion in net income on $25.2 billion in revenue during the fourth quarter of 2023. The figures represent an increase in revenue, up from $24.3 billion the same time last year. The company added that its vehicle volume growth rate in 2024 “may be notably lower” than it was in 2023 as it works to launch Tesla’s next-gen vehicle. Responding to a question about its next-gen vehicles during the earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company is targeting production “towards the end of 2025” but warned of delays due to the complexities of the manufacturing process. “We are focused on bringing the next generation platform to market as quickly as we can, with the plan to start production at Gigafactory Texas,” Tesla said in a note to shareholders. “This platform will revolutionize how vehicles are manufactured.” The company’s profit margins improved slightly but are still down compared to last year’s. The company reported margins of 8.2 percent, up slightly from 7.6 percent the previous quarter but down from …

Apple’s immersive next-gen CarPlay will start with Porsche and Aston Martin

Apple said we’d get vehicle announcements tied to its “next generation” of wireless CarPlay by the end of 2023, and today, it delivered mock-ups of the dashboard-spanning UI styled for Porsche and Aston Martin. Instead of simply taking over the infotainment center and small segments of the in-dash areas, it seeks to overhaul all displays of the given vehicle. The theme is distinct to each automaker and also gives CarPlay access to the vehicle’s features, like your radio and temperature settings. In the Porsche setup, there’s a three-dial layout with the speedometer on the left and a wallpaper made to match its houndstooth seat pattern. In the Aston Martin layout, there’s a media display in the center, surrounded by the speedometer and tachometer, and outlined in the brand’s distinctive green. Car & Driver reports that all driving-specific data is delivered by the car’s sensors, even as your iPhone runs the apps, with a note that, according to Apple, the phone does not store or track the vehicle-sourced information. The feature was announced at Apple’s WWDC …

George Hotz wants to ‘make driving chill’ with next-gen Comma 3 hands-free driver assist

George Hotz just wants to build robots. You can see the desire in the Comma 3, the next-generation assisted driving hardware from his company, Comma.ai.  “It’s got two eyes,” he tells me, pointing to the two forward-facing cameras. He then holds the device up to his face so I can see the cameras are spaced about as far apart as a set of eyes on a human.  Hotz goes on, “It has a mouth for speaking. It can breathe air to cool itself… We’re building a human head.”  “We’re building a human head.” You may remember Hotz when he went by the hacker name “geohot” to jailbreak an iPhone at the tender age of 17. Since then, he’s been a thorn in Elon Musk’s side, dissing Tesla’s Autopilot technology. And he’s pissed off Sony by breaking into a PlayStation 3. (Sony sued but later dropped the suit on the condition that Hotz agree to never tinker with its hardware again.) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been keeping a keen eye on him, to …

The problem with ‘next-gen’ gadgets

Gadgets, since time in memoriam, have worked a certain way. You, a company, release one. It’s good, but it’s not perfect. No gadget is perfect! So you do market research and focus groups. You figure out who’s buying. You figure out what they like and what they don’t like. You refine. You fix problems. The next year, you release a version of that device that is objectively, concretely better. This is the next-gen device, the Device 2.0. You call this device an “upgrade.” You tell your customers to recycle Device 1.0 and replace it with Device 2.0. Some of them do. “Should you upgrade?” the tech bloggers write, calculating the pros and cons of doing so. I know, I know, this is a vast oversimplification of how consumer tech actually works. I merely mean to illustrate that many of us who follow the gadget space share an assumption about the way products work: that products improve as the years go on. That next-gen gadgets are better than the gadgets they’re replacing. But not all technology …

Apple, Google, and Mozilla are teaming up to make a next-gen browser benchmark

Apple, Google, and Mozilla, the makers of Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, are teaming up to create a next-gen browser benchmark called Speedometer 3, according to tweets from all three companies. This means that the major players in the web browser and rendering engine space will have a say in a benchmark that’s meant to test how their apps perform with the latest tech that websites may be using. In a Twitter thread, Mozilla says that a benchmark built by several web companies will help provide a “shared understanding of what matters.” The company says that’s important when you’re trying to coordinate across web developers, standards bodies, the groups that build the engines that interpret code based on those standards, and the companies that build browsers based around those engines. Apple’s WebKit Twitter account lays it out by saying that “working together will help us further improve the benchmark and improve browser performance for our users.” Inevitably, this benchmark will end up being used to compare Safari’s WebKit to Chrome’s Blink or Google’s V8 engine to …

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update: CD Projekt Red Details New Content Coming December 14

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a next-gen update on December 14, and publisher CD Projekt Red has detailed all the enhancements coming with the update. Revealed during a REDstreams live stream, held late Wednesday, a group of developers outlined the improved visuals with ray tracing, faster load times on console, a photo mode, and the new Netflix DLC based on Netflix’s Henry Cavill-led The Witcher series. The update will be available as a free download to those who already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The update will make use of AMD’s FSR 2.1 and Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology to ensure steady framerates while implementing better textures, reflections, and ray tracing in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red confirmed that new graphics settings will be included in the update, letting players on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X pick between 60fps performance and 30fps quality modes. The latter prioritises visual fidelity over smoother frames, delivering ray-traced shadows and reflections on the 2015-released game. Haptic …
