Tamil Nadu showers cash awards on state’s Paralympics medal-winners

Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M K Stalin felicitated the Paris Paralympics 2024 medalists from the state with cash incentives on Wednesday. There were four Paralympic medalists from Tamil Nadu, three in the sport of Para-badminton, and one from the history-making Para-athletics contingent. INR 2 Crore for Thulasimathi Among these medalists, Para-shuttler Thulasimathi Murugesan who won the silver medal in the women’s singles SU5 category received a cash price of INR 2 crore. Meanwhile, the bronze medalists, Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan (Women’s Singles SH6) and Manisha Ramadass (Women’s Singles SU5) presented with a cash price of INR 1 crore. Mariyappan Thanagavelu, who completed his full set of medals by winning a bronze in the men’s high jump T63 event at the Paris Paralympics, was also awarded by Stalin with a cash prize of INR 1 Crore. Krishna Nagar exits in the group stage

It was a heartbreaking evening for Indian badminton fans as the defending champion Krishna Nagar suffered a group-stage exit in the men’s singles SH6 category at the Paris Paralympic Games on Saturday. He conceded his second straight defeat in the group stage, where, in the final group match against Thailand’s Natthapong Meechai, he retired out in the second game, trailing by 3-11. Earlier, he also suffered a defeat in the first group stage match against Miles Krajewski of the USA in the straight games on Friday. Meanwhile, in the women’s SH6 category, top-seeded Nithya Sre Sivan conceded her first defeat of the tournament in her last group-stage match against Lin Shunagbao of China, 20-22, 18-21. This was the fourth meeting between the two and the Indian hadn’t found a way out for Lin yet, losing in all four of these occasions. Despite that, Nithya still qualified for the quarterfinal stage.
