Govt: Crackdown on end-of-life vehicles to resume in Delhi

The Delhi transport department on Friday announced that strict enforcement against end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) will be carried out in the Capital. The public notice issued by the department also mentioned that such vehicles found in public places will be impounded and scrapped in accordance with the law. The announcement comes amid the government’s submission to the Supreme Court to modify ELV classification based on actual emissions. (Sunil Ghosh/HT) “The general public is hereby informed that strict action shall be taken against End-of-Life vehicles of BS-3I and below emission norms… diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years are classified as End-of-Life Vehicles,” the notice mentioned. While the notice mentioned the crackdown will begin immediately, officials said it will start in a few days. The Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) has written to the irrigation department, requesting a review of its decision to decline the no-objection certificate (NOC) for developing a proposed food street along the Sidhwan Canal stretch between BRS Nagar Police Post and the railway line. MC officials admitted that NOC should have been obtained first, as the project falls under regulatory jurisdiction of the irrigation department due to its proximity to the Sidhwan Canal. Woman dies, her friend hospitalised as newly opened hotel in Noida catches fire

A 27-year-old woman, a physiotherapist, died of burn injuries and asphyxiation after a hotel in Noida where she was staying with a friend caught fire on Saturday evening. Officials said the incident took place on the sixth floor of Moon Hotel and Banquet Hall, a newly opened hotel, in Sector-104, Noida. The deceased has been identified as Palak Kumari, a resident of Sector-46 in Noida. Her friend, an engineer, 26-year-old Navneet Sharma, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase-1, New Delhi, is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Both were admitted to the hospital by police after they fainted following inhalation of a lot of smoke, officers said. Fire officials said that the hotel did not have a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department, adding the couple were the only two guests at the hotel at the time of the accident. “This is a new hotel. Punjab exempts over 5k villages from NOC for land registration

The Punjab housing and urban development department on Monday decided to exempt 5,773 villages from the requirement of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before the registration of land in rural areas. Revealing this, housing and urban development minister Aman Arora said the decision would ensure smooth registration of revenue estate in 5,773 villages in 22 districts. To curb the mushrooming of illegal colonies, the state revenue department made NOC obligatory for the registration of property falling under either the jurisdiction of a development authority or a local body. This decision was made applicable even on the revenue land of villages, making it obligatory for landowners to obtain a NOC before getting registration of land in rural areas. It is worth mentioning that Section (20) (3) of the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act (PAPRA) 1995 says that no registrar or sub-registrar appointed under the provisions of the Registration Act, 1908, shall register sale deed or any other document regarding sale of land or plot or building situated in a colony, for which NOC has not …
