The Mohali municipal corporation (MC) in the House meeting held on Friday also approved a proposal to streamline the management of parks maintained by residents welfare associations (RWAs). The move is expected to encourage more RWAs to voluntarily undertake park maintenance. Mohali presently has 695 parks, of which 198 are already being maintained by RWAs. Under the revised mechanism, a single nodal authority will process applications from RWAs seeking to maintain parks, monitor compliance with MC guidelines and exercise powers to cancel agreements in case of violations. Officials said the move is expected to encourage more RWAs to voluntarily undertake park maintenance. The current maintenance assistance remains ₹4.23 per square metre. Several councillors supported the demand and also sought deployment of caretakers and security staff at public toilets to ensure better upkeep. The Yadgir Zilla Panchayat has set up a control room in Yadgir, taluk-level helplines and appointed nodal officers in all taluks to attend to complaints about drinking water crisis for the next three months. “The step has been taken to attend to drinking water problems in the rural areas during summer. The helpline 084732 53758 is available at district headquarters for the public to submit complaints related to drinking water issues,“ Lavish Ordia, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat, told The Hindu. The complaints received through the helpline number would be forwarded to the officers concerned, he said. Mr. Ordia said that nodal officers in each taluk have been appointed to attend to grievances. The Directorate of Education (DoE) has instructed Delhi schools to appoint nodal officers to manage stray dog-related issues around their campuses, in compliance with a Supreme Court directive, reported the PTI.  Officials clarified that no specific responsibilities have been assigned to teacher. In an official statement issued on Monday, the directorate clarified, “No directions have been issued by the Directorate of Education concerning the assignment of specific duties to teachers.” In a circular dated December 5, the DoE`s Caretaking Branch directed district education officers to designate nodal officers from schools for stray dog-related matters and submit their details to the directorate, which will forward the consolidated list to the chief secretary. Teachers` associations, however, opposed the move, claiming that assigning such duties during the academic session could adversely affect teaching work, especially as pre-board examinations are currently underway in several schools, reported PTI.  As per the circular, the details to be shared include the name, designation, contact number, and email ID of the nominated nodal officers from schools, stadiums, and sports complexes under the district. …
