The incident occurred late on Monday (August 3) night at the ILGIM company in the Ecotech-3 industrial area, where at least six fire brigade vehicles were rushed after information about the blaze was received, a police spokesperson said. The firefighters were attempting to douse the blaze when a wall and an iron beam inside the factory suddenly collapsed, injuring five of them, the spokesperson said. All five injured firefighters were immediately taken to a hospital by ambulance, where Rohit Yadav and Tirathpal Singh succumbed to their injuries, he said. The condition of the three other injured firefighters – Rajpal Singh, Manish Kumar and Amit Kumar – is stated to be out of danger and they are undergoing treatment, the spokesperson said. Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Uttar Pradesh’s most affluent and urbanised district, has the highest number of legal disputes pending in its courts (918,575) and Lucknow is a distant second (482,288), according to National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) figures. In mid-June, nearly 1.19 crore (11.9 million) cases were pending in Uttar Pradesh subordinate courts. The case load in the state was the highest in the country. Noida’s case pendency is overwhelmingly driven by criminal cases. Civil cases account for less than 30,000 of the pending total disputes while criminal cases stood at a whopping around 8.89 lakh (889,000). A fire broke out in a multi-storied building in a Noida village on Wednesday, killing two people, police said. The fire was later brought under control, and around 50 tenants, residing in the building in Mamura village in Sector 66, were evacuated safely, officials said. Police said that two residents, a man and a woman, were rushed to the hospital; however, after reaching the hospital, both of them were declared dead by doctors. For nearly two decades, a cluster of modest homes in Greater Noida existed in a state of uncertainty. The dispute stemmed from a 2007 acquisition of about 230 hectares, with the court allowing homeowners to seek civic amenities on payment of development charges. Since 2007, however, the homes stood in the shadow of a land acquisition drive launched by the Uttar Pradesh government for Greater Noida’s industrial expansion.
