Surat: Surat Crime Branch in Gujarat has arrested Tamraj Shahu, a most-wanted fugitive in the high-profile Asaram Bapu and Narayan Sai rape case, after a decade on the run. Shahu, who was involved in attacks on key witnesses, was apprehended from Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He had multiple serious criminal charges against him, including acid attacks, attempted murders, and homicide. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot during a press conference said that the Tamraj Shahu, a resident of Chhattisgarh, led a gang that carried out violent attacks on witnesses in the Asaram Bapu case. The gang specialised in acid attacks, stabbings, and gunfire assaults. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Thursday handed over 230 acres of land designated for the development of the International Film City near the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar to Bayview Bhutani Film City Private Limited, also known as Bayview Projects LLP — a special purpose vehicle led by producer Boney Kapoor and construction giant Bhutani Infrastructure. “Today is a big day. A 20-year-old woman from Noida was arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport fon Monday or allegedly smuggling drugs worth over Rs 11 crore. According to officials, the woman arrived from Bangkok on February 21 and was intercepted by officers of the Customs Department during routine checks. Upon examination of her luggage, authorities discovered eight packets of cookies and rice containing a green-coloured narcotic substance. The material, suspected to be ganja or marijuana, had a net weight of 11.28 kg. “A diagnostic test conducted on the seized material prima facie confirmed it to be ganja or marijuana. The estimated illicit market value of the seized substance is approximately Rs 11.28 crore,” the Customs Department stated. Following the seizure, the woman was taken into custody, and the narcotics were confiscated. Further investigation into the case is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the smuggled drugs, said officials.
