Noida fire: Two killed in Mamura building blaze, landlord arrested

A fire broke out in a multi-storied building in a Noida village on Wednesday, killing two people, police said. The fire was later brought under control, and around 50 tenants, residing in the building in Mamura village in Sector 66, were evacuated safely, officials said. Police said that two residents, a man and a woman, were rushed to the hospital; however, after reaching the hospital, both of them were declared dead by doctors. According to Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Mishra, the ground-plus-four building had around 10 to 12 rooms on each floor that were being used as residential flats, as per PTI. Landlord arrested Following the fire that killed two people in Noida, the landlord of the building has been arrested by the Noida police, and further investigation is underway.  Mishra, while briefing about the incident, said that the fire appears to have been sparked by an electric two-wheeler being charged inside the building. Nearly 24 years after former Lucknow Bar Association president Indradev Singh was shot dead near the Lucknow district court, three of the accused were sentenced to life on Tuesday. For nearly two decades, a cluster of modest homes in Greater Noida existed in a state of uncertainty. The dispute stemmed from a 2007 acquisition of about 230 hectares, with the court allowing homeowners to seek civic amenities on payment of development charges. Since 2007, however, the homes stood in the shadow of a land acquisition drive launched by the Uttar Pradesh government for Greater Noida’s industrial expansion. By an order released on June 25, the Supreme Court finally brought that uncertainty to an end. The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration is carrying out acquisition of 2,053 hectare of land for the third phase of the Noida Airport project expansion, said administrative officials on Sunday. ₹5,500 crore compensation has been already distributed to 8,000 farmers for the land in the third phase of Noida international airport. A fire broke out in an office on the ninth floor of a commercial building in Techzone 4, Greater Noida West, on Thursday morning, officials said. Preliminary findings indicate that the blaze may have been caused by a short circuit. No injuries or casualties were reported. Commercial flight operations from the newly developed Noida International Airport are set to commence on Monday, marking a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s aviation infrastructure development.  Officials said domestic carrier IndiGo will be the first airline to launch scheduled services from the airport. According to the state government, the inaugural flight is scheduled to depart from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow at 7:05 a.m. and arrive at the Jewar airport at 8:05 a.m. Following the inaugural service, the airport’s first regular commercial flight will operate to Bengaluru. Located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area, the airport is considered one of the Uttar Pradesh government’s flagship infrastructure projects. Authorities expect the facility to strengthen the state’s position as a major aviation, logistics and connectivity hub. Officials said the first phase of the airport has been completed with the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually.
