Earlier, it had issued advisory for those travelling from or transiting through these “high risk countries” experiencing symptoms such as fever, weakness and fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, unexplained bleeding, and sore throat to report to the airport health officer or health desk at all ports, airports and other points of entry into the country. New Delhi, The Indian government has advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo , Uganda and South Sudan in view of the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain in parts of Africa. Whether the RO systems are regularly maintained and the water quality checked is also open to question.  | Photo Credit: The Hindu The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has issued a new order banning the use of potable water for non-essential purposes in the city ahead of summer. Last year, the BWSSB placed a similar ban in March 2024 owing to a water crisis.  The BWSSB has said that owing to rapid urbanisation and the population growth exceeding 10 million, the demand for water in Bengaluru has increased significantly, emphasising the need for efficient management and stricter regulations to prevent wastage and misuse. According to the order, potable water should not be used for washing cars, watering gardens, construction of buildings and roads. The Central government on Thursday lifted a ban on non-essential construction work and plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi-NCR amid a progressive improvement in air quality in the region. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) noted a significant improvement with an AQI of 316 at 2 pm, well below the threshold for invoking Stage-III actions under the air pollution control plan called the Graded Response Action Plan. Preventive measures are in place and the forecast suggests further improvement, said the statutory body responsible for forming air pollution reduction strategies for the region and their implementation.
