People sit in front of a television screen showing a news broadcast with file footage of a North Korean missile test, at a train station in Seoul on Sunday(AFP) The visit, Lee’s first to China since taking office in June, comes amid heightened global tensions after Pyongyang’s aggressive display, on the heels of the US. attack on Venezuela. Lee is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during the trip for their second meeting in just two months, an unusually short interval that, analysts say, signals China’s keen interest in boosting economic collaboration and tourism as its relations with neighbouring Japan have sunk to the lowest point in years. North Korea Calls US B-1b Deployment “Reckless Bluffing” After Joint Drill

Tensions rise as US & South Korea hold joint drills with B-1B bomber. Seoul: North Korea criticised the United States for deploying the B-1B strategic bomber in a recent joint military drill with South Korea, state media KCNA reported on Thursday. In a statement carried by KCNA, a spokesperson for the country’s defence ministry said the deployment of U.S. strategic bombers in the region has become a “routine military practice,” while calling it “reckless bluffing.” The B-1B was deployed in a joint military drill between South Korea and the U.S. held on Tuesday along with fighter jets, according to Seoul’s defence ministry. B-1B bombers have been featured in joint military exercises in recent years which North Korea has long denounced as a rehearsal for war against it while Seoul has portrayed the exercises as purely defensive. “The recent military move of the U.S. and the ROK is an open threat to the security of our state,” the statement said, referring to the Republic of Korea. North Korean Hackers Disguised as IT Workers Targeting UK, European Companies

North Korean hackers who disguise themselves as IT workers are applying for work in the U.K., according to Google Threat Intelligence Group. Success in the U.S. is declining due to rising awareness of their tactics, indictments, and right-to-work verification challenges, prompting them to turn elsewhere. The attackers pose as legitimate remote workers, looking to generate revenue, access sensitive company data, or perform espionage operations through employment. Researchers observed them seeking out login credentials for job sites and human capital management platforms. “Europe needs to wake up fast,” Jamie Collier, Lead Threat Intelligence Advisor, Europe, Google Threat Intelligence Group, told TechRepublic in an email. “Despite being in the crosshairs of IT worker operations, too many perceive this as a U.S. problem. North Korea’s recent shifts likely stem from U.S. operational hurdles, showing IT workers’ agility and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.” SEE: UK Cyber Risks Are ‘Widely Underestimated,’ Warns Country’s Security Chief Hackers are targeting larger organisations and new territories Activity has increased since late October, according to Google, with attackers from the Democratic People’s Republic of …

The duo endured a long journey from North Korea to making their music debut as an idol in South Korea. Recently, in an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP), the two spoke about their hardships and expressed excitement about their new beginnings. For Yu Hyuk, who grew up in North Hamgyong province, his life was about survival, not music. Growing up, he had never heard of K-pop as he mostly spent his days working, stealing food when necessary and struggling to feed his family. “I had never really listened to K-pop music,” he told the agency before adding that “watching music videos felt like a luxury to me.” Before turning …

K-pop survival reality show Under Fifteen comes under fire for ‘exploiting’ preschoolers to preteens

Mar 27, 2025 01:04 AM IST There’s never a day sans drama in the world (ad backstage) of K-pop. A yet-to-air survival reality show, featuring literal children is proof Imagine the premise of something being so controversial that it offends audience sensibilities even before airing. K-pop survival reality show Under Fifteen comes under fire for ‘exploiting’ minors(Photos: Instagram/eyopkr) That’s exactly what the makers of Korean survival reality show, Under Fifteen, are contending with, and with good reason. From the looks of it, Under Fifteen, set to air on March 31, won’t be getting a lot of genuine viewership, with its content being the very definition of rage bait. While it is a well-known fact that a K-pop survival reality show, that too for seeking out contenders with future idol potential, is by no means going to be a cakewalk for the participants, what has been getting everyone’s goat is the fact that each of the 59 participants, from across 70 countries the world over, are — as the name of the show implies — Under …

How North Korea Pulled Off the $1.5B Bybit Hack—Crypto’s Biggest Heist

Last week, news outlets worldwide reported that North Korea orchestrated the theft of $1.5 billion in digital tokens from cryptocurrency exchange firm Bybit. However, this isn’t just another crypto hack. The cyberattack is considered the biggest crypto heist ever. The situation adds to the growing list of serious concerns about the security of digital assets and the increasingly sophisticated tactics of state-sponsored cybercriminals. How did North Korea pull this off? According to reports, the North Korean hackers are believed to be part of the notorious Lazarus group, making this the third attack attributed to them in six months and bringing their grand total of stolen crypto to $3 billion. Lazarus employed a series of highly advanced techniques with several key components. But how did this massive breach unfold? Phase one: phishing First, it is suspected that the malicious actors likely conducted targeted phishing campaigns, known as spear phishing, against key personnel. This allowed the cybercriminals to steal sensitive information and access Bybit’s user interface and cold wallet signers. For those unfamiliar with cold and hot wallets: A …

FBI Accuses North Korean Hackers of Bybit Attack, Urges Crypto Firms to Block Linked Transactions

The FBI has attributed the recent attack on Dubai-based Bybit crypto exchange to North Korean hackers. The agency has called on crypto firms to help block the stolen funds. According to Bybit CEO Ben Zhou, a hacker gained control of one of the exchange’s offline Ethereum wallets, resulting in a loss of nearly $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 13,006 crore). Following the attack earlier this month, Arkham Intelligence reported that the stolen assets are already being transferred to new addresses for liquidation. In an announcement posted on February 26, the FBI agency said that North Korean hackers are using the ‘TraderTraitor’ activity to convert the stolen funds into other crypto tokens and distribute them across ‘thousands of wallets’. The FBI expects that the stolen assets are likely to be laundered further. As part of the post, the FBI has released a list of 51 Ethereum wallet addresses that have been identified among those holding portions of the stolen assets. These addresses are known to be linked to North Korean TraderTraitor actors. “FBI encourages private sector entities …

North Korea’s Kim slams US-South Korea-Japan partnership, vows to boost his nuclear programme | News Today News

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said an elevated US security partnership with South Korea and Japan poses a grave threat to his country and vowed to further bolster his nuclear weapons program, state media reported Sunday. Kim has previously made similar warnings, but his latest statement implies again that the North Korean leader won’t likely embrace President Donald Trump’s overture to meet him and revive diplomacy anytime soon. In a speech marking the 77th founding anniversary of the Korean People’s Army on Saturday, Kim said the US-Japan-South Korea trilateral security partnership established under a US plot to form a NATO-like regional military bloc is inviting military imbalance on the Korean Peninsula and “raising a grave challenge to the security environment of our state,” according to the official Korean Central News Agency. Story continues below this ad “Referring to a series of new plans for rapidly bolstering all deterrence including nuclear forces, he clarified once again the unshakable policy of more highly developing the nuclear forces,” KCNA said. Amid stalled diplomacy with the US and …

Zelensky Says North Korean Troops Back On Russia Front Line

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that North Korean troops were back on the front line in Russia’s Kursk region, after reports Moscow had withdrawn them due to heavy losses. More than 10,000 soldiers from the reclusive state were sent to Russia last year to help it fight back a shock Ukrainian offensive into the border region, according to South Korean and Western intelligence. A Ukrainian military spokesman told AFP last Friday that Kyiv had not encountered activity or clashes with North Korean troops for three weeks. “There have been new assaults in the Kursk operation areas… the Russian army and North Korean soldiers have been brought in again,” Zelensky said in his evening address. The Ukrainian leader said a “significant number” of opposing troops had been “destroyed”. “We are talking about hundreds of Russian and North Korean soldiers,” he added. Kyiv captured dozens of border settlements in its Kursk assault six months ago, the first time a foreign army had crossed into Russian territory since World War II. The North Korean deployment, never …
