Karate India Organisation was never recognised as NSF: IOA

The Indian Olympic Association on Monday banned the Karate India Organisation (KIO) on grounds of misgovernance and unauthorised team selection. The IOA, in a letter dated June 1, 2026, directed KIO to refrain from conducting or organising National Championship and from selecting, fielding, nominating or purporting to represent Indian teams or athletes in any international competition without lawful authorisation. The move is likely to impact India’s participation at the Asian Games. At the previous edition fo the Games, the organisers had refused to accept entries from India. The team was selected by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and since KIO was not part of the selection the Asian Karate Federation did not accept the entries. Meanwhile, the letter confirmed that “KIO has never been recognised by the Government of India as a National Sports Federation for karate under the provisions of the National Sports Development Code of India.” “Consequently, KIO is not entitled to use the word “India” in its nomenclature, nor can it claim any status or authority associated with such usage, except …

Indian Pickleball Association gets National Sports Federation status

The Sports Ministry approved the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) status as the National Sports Federation (NSF) to promote and develop the sport in the country on Tuesday. The Ministry of Youth Affairs, in a letter dated April 25, states “On Indian Pickleball Association’s request, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports agrees to recognize the IPA as a National Sports Federation”. The letter further adds that the IPA will be under observation with respect to compliance with sports code and for a period of two years will not be eligible for funding under the scheme of assistance of NSF. The governing body for pickleball, All India Pickleball Association (AIPA), had submitted the requisite documents to the ministry to be recognized as an NSF in November last year. The move came following the successful hosting of the inaugural World Pickleball Championship 2024 in Mumbai in November last year. The event, hosted by the AIPA, saw participation from around 650 players from countries like Australia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Poland, and Singapore. The championship attracted participants from 16 different …

What is an NSF or Returned Item Fee?

A Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) or returned item fee is what a bank charges you when it declines a payment due to insufficient funds in your account. If you try to make a payment, such as writing a check without having enough of a balance, the bank will reject the transaction and charge a fee. NSF fees are especially important for businesses to understand, as they can strain cash flow, impact vendor relationships, and even risk account closures if multiple NSF charges accumulate. How returned item fees work Returned item fees kick in when a bank returns a transaction because there aren’t enough funds in your account to cover it. This can happen with checks, electronic payments, or any transactions requiring a balance check. If your bank doesn’t offer overdraft protection, any transaction without the required funds triggers this fee. These fees are particularly troublesome for businesses since failed transactions can lead to unpaid bills, strained relationships with suppliers, and potential service interruptions. If a vendor doesn’t receive payment due to an NSF fee, they might …
