Beyond China, Beyond America: Amitav Acharya On India’s Global Play | World News

Last Updated:February 20, 2026, 22:46 IST The Indian-origin scholar at American University challenges the populist assertion that Indian professionals are ‘stealing’ jobs from the core support base of President Trump A central theme of the discussion is the role of the Indian diaspora. (Representational image: X/@narendramodi) The New York Times has released a significant episode of its podcast and opinion series, Interesting Times with Ross Douthat, featuring the acclaimed international relations scholar Amitav Acharya. The discussion, titled “Welcome to the Indian Century”, provides a comprehensive examination of India’s ascent as a global leader in waiting, juxtaposing its strategic trajectory with that of China and the shifting priorities of the United States. The Myth of the Job Thief One of the most provocative segments of the conversation addresses the “MAGA” narrative surrounding H-1B visas. Professor Acharya, an Indian-origin scholar at American University, explicitly challenges the populist assertion that Indian professionals are “stealing” jobs from the core support base of President Donald Trump. He argues that this perception is a fundamental misconception, as the skill sets of …

Pahalgam attack: Pakistan Defence Minister demands international probe, NYT reports

File picture of Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif | Photo Credit: Getty Images Pakistan believes an international investigation is needed into the killing of 26 men at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, and is willing to work with international investigators, the New York Times reported on Friday (April 25, 2025), quoting Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif. Mr. Asif told the newspaper in an interview that Pakistan was “ready to cooperate” with “any investigation which is conducted by international inspectors.” India holds that there were Pakistani elements to the attack on Tuesday (April 22, 2025), but Islamabad has denied any involvement. India suspends Indus Waters Treaty, what now? Since the attack, both sides have unleashed a raft of measures against each other, with India putting the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance and Pakistan closing its airspace to Indian airlines. Mr. Asif told the newspaper that India had used the aftermath of the terrorist attack as a pretext to “suspend the water treaty and for domestic political purposes”. NYT Slammed By US Government Over Its Reportage Of Kashmir Terror Attack

New Delhi: The New York Times has been pulled up by the US government for its reportage of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, in which 26 people, including a foreign national were shot dead after being asked to prove their allegiance to Islam. The attack, for which a Pakistan-based terror group The Resistance Front – an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba – claimed responsibility, was reported by The New York Times as a “militant” attack. An introduction to the report also said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called the “shooting” a “terror attack”. NYT CALLED OUT OVER TERROR REPORTAGE The Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States government took to social media to publicly call out The New York Times article over its news report, describing it as being “removed from reality”. The NYT headline read ‘At Least 24 Tourists Gunned Down by Militants in Kashmir’. “This was a terrorist attack, plain and simple,” noted the US government, adding that “Whether it’s India or Israel, when it comes to …

India refutes NYT report, says no sensitive tech transferred by HAL to Russia

India refutes NYT report, says no sensitive tech transferred by HAL to Russia

India has dismissed a New York Times report alleging that a state-run defence firm transferred sensitive technology to Russia, calling it “factually incorrect” and “misleading.” Officials said that the Indian entity has strictly adhered to international trade regulations and end-user commitments. A report published by The New York Times linking Hindustan Aeronautics Limited — an Indian state-run defence firm — to a Russian arms agency is “factually incorrect” and “misleading,” official sources said on Monday. The report also connected the Indian firm to a British aerospace company, suggesting that military hardware supplied by the British manufacturer may have reached the Russian agency Rosoboronexport. Official sources asserted that the report was designed to “frame issues and distort facts to suit a political narrative” while disregarding basic due diligence. “The Indian entity mentioned in the report has scrupulously followed all its international obligations on strategic trade controls and end-user commitments,” a source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. India’s legal and regulatory framework on strategic trade remains robust, guiding overseas commercial activities of Indian firms, the …

NYT moves to dismiss Justin Baldoni’s ‘insufficient’ $250M defamation case | Hollywood

The New York Times has formally requested a federal judge to dismiss Justin Baldoni’s $250 million defamation lawsuit, according to Variety. The lawsuit stems from the Times’ December 21 article, “We Can Bury Anyone: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine,” which revealed that actress Blake Lively had filed a civil rights complaint against Baldoni, her It Ends With Us co-star and director. Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively on the sets of It Ends With Us NYT argues Baldoni’s lawsuit lacks merit Baldoni earlier alleged that the Times collaborated with Lively and her PR team to publish the report, which detailed claims that he and his representatives orchestrated a campaign to damage Lively’s reputation in retaliation for her raising concerns about his on-set behaviour. In its court filing, the Times argues that Baldoni and his company, Wayfarer, are attempting to pull the newspaper into their ongoing dispute with Lively. The publication asserts that it simply engaged in legitimate newsgathering and reporting on the conflict. The filing further states that Baldoni’s lawsuit presents a “one-sided tale” designed for …

Prince Harry Addresses Meghan Markle Separation Rumors at NYT Event: ‘We’ve Apparently Divorced Maybe…’

Prince Harry brought his classic humor to The New York Times 2024 DealBook Summit on Wednesday, December 4. He attended the event sans Meghan Markle to express his thoughts on mainstream media, misinformation, and efforts to make the virtual world safer. The Duke of Sussex was interviewed by NYT columnist and DealBook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin, who asked about his approach to intrusive news articles concerning his personal life with his wife and children. Subtly acknowledging that people might be wondering why the Prince was attending events on a different coast than his Princess (Markle had a planned solo event in California the same day), Sorkin remarked, “People are fascinated by everything you’re doing all the time.” Taking the observation in stride, Harry clarified that he is not divorcing his wife, if that’s what people are speculating.
