The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Google and Apple to strictly act against the dissemination of obscene pornographic content through mobile applications hosted on their online platforms, remarking that it cannot permit an entire generation to be “ruined”. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia said in the present legal framework, the social media intermediaries have to play the “most vital role” and they should act against the dissemination of pornographic content not only upon receiving a complaint but even at the time of uploading by exercising due diligence. Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth in Maharashtra`s Amravati district for allegedly sharing objectionable photos and videos of several women and girls online, officials said on Wednesday. Following the arrest of the accused, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde, who hails from Amravati, demanded a probe into the matter by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), as per PTI.  The accused has been identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanvir Ahmed, a resident of Paratwada in the Amravati district, officials said, adding that he was taken into custody on April 11 after obscene pictures and videos featuring him with some women and girls went viral on social media. An extortion complaint has landed a senior citizen from Maharashtra`s Nashik in the soup after a probe into his blackmailers uncovered 121 obscene videos, leading to his arrest for sexual exploitation after one of his victims came forward, accusing him of abuse, police said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI. The police had earlier arrested four men for allegedly stealing a tablet from the senior citizen`s office in the Satpur area and attempting to extort Rs 12 lakh from him by threatening to leak his private photographs and videos on social media.
