Dharmendra Pradhan offers prayers ahead of Puri Rath Yatra

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri ahead of the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra. Earlier in the day, Pradhan visited the Govardhana Peeth and sought the blessings of Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati before proceeding for the darshan of Lord Jagannath. Speaking to ANI after meeting the Shankaracharya, Pradhan said he felt fortunate to receive his blessings before visiting the temple. “Today, on the occasion of the Rath Yatra at Puri Dham, I had the privilege of receiving the blessings of the revered Shankaracharya. I feel fortunate to be in the presence of Shankaracharya ji. Having received his blessings, I am now proceeding to seek the darshan of Mahaprabhu,” Pradhan said. Stranded Andhra fishermen rescued, search continues for six missing

Andhra Pradesh Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has said all the fishermen stranded off the Paradip coast in Odisha have safely reached Paradip Harbour and will arrive in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The fishermen were rescued after their fishing boat developed engine trouble and drifted into deeper waters due to adverse weather conditions off the Odisha coast. “All the stranded fishermen are safe and have reached Paradip Harbour. They are scheduled to arrive in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday,” Atchannaidu said in a press release issued on Monday.Medical examinations conducted at Paradip Harbour confirmed that all the fishermen are in good health, said the Minister.Personnel from the Ichchapuram Police have reached Paradip Harbour on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh government and are overseeing the necessary arrangements for the fishermen, he said. “The safety of the fishermen is the government’s highest priority. We have been coordinating with the concerned officials at every stage and have taken all necessary measures for their well-being. Ebola surveillance system launched at Bhubaneswar airport

The airport authorities here launched a surveillance system, including mandatory thermal screening, for international passengers, following the WHO`s declaration of the Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa, an official said on Saturday. Biju Patnaik International Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan said the arrangement for thermal screening has been made as per the health department instructions. The officials engaged in the screening exercise are also thoroughly checking the 21-day travel history of every passenger in order to ascertain potential risk factors, he said. “The arrangement has also been made on the airport premises for isolation and testing as per the Ebola screening guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry,” Pradhan said. An international flight from Bangkok landed at the airport here, and strict surveillance was maintained on the passengers coming from that country. All the passengers are advised to report any symptoms like high fever, body ache, or unusual fatigue. BHUBANESWAR: A Nepali undergraduate student found dead in her hostel room in Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) on Thursday evening, the second such case in less than three months. (File Photo) Bhubaneswar police Commissioner S Devdutt Singh said the girl was found dead in her hostel room on the campus and is suspected to have died by suicide. The circumstances that may have led her to die by suicide are unclear. She was studying computer science and hails from Birgunj area of Nepal. The police reached the KIIT Campus and are investigating the case, Singh said. The death on the campus comes less than three months after a 20-year-old Nepali student, also studying computer science, died by suicide following alleged blackmail by her classmate which later snowballed into a major crisis over some faculty members making racial and humiliating comments at the Nepali students. Odisha govt introduces new colour code for all govt schools; details here

The Odisha government has revealed a new colour code for the buildings of all government schools, including PM SHRI schools across the state, according to an official statement. The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has instructed all Collectors-cum-Chairman to implement the uniform colour code in all government schools. Under the BJD government, all government schools across Odisha were painted green, including official buildings. However, with the change in government, the colour of official buildings was altered to a light orange frost with an orange-tan border. In addition, the BJP government modified the colour and design of school uniforms for classes IX and X, changing them from green to light brown and maroon a few months after taking office. Bhubaneswar: A 65-year-old woman was on Saturday found to have been living with the corpses of three of her family members for at least two days in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, a police officer said. Decomposed bodies of the three – the woman’s husband, her daughter and grandson – were found hanging in their residence at Chaulia Khamar village under Dhenkanal Sadar police station limits. The inspector in charge of the police station, Purna Chandra Rout, said that the woman, Pushpanjali Das, on Saturday left the house and went to her son’s place in Dhenkanal town and told him that three were dead. Following this, her son Prasanna Kumar Das called up someone in the village, who informed him that some stench was coming from the house and that he should come and check. For some reason, Prasanna has been staying away from his father’s house for around 30 years. Malkangiri: Bodies of two girls in school uniforms were found hanging from a tree in a forest in Odisha’a Malkangiri district, police said on Saturday. The girls were missing for two days, an officer said. Both were studying in standard VII in a local school. The family members had lodged a complaint, stating that they did not return home on Thursday after school. They searched for the two minors but could not find them. Locals found the two bodies hanging from a tree in the forest, the officer said. After receiving the information, the police personnel of MV 79 Police Station and Motu Police Station along with Malkangiri SDPO Sachin Patel reached the spot and initiated a probe into the incident, he said.
