Gill ahead of one-off Test vs AFG

3 min readJun 5, 2026 07:37 PM IST India skipper Shubman Gill reacted to leading India after almost 7 months as the home team prepares to take on Afghanistan in a one-off test at Mullanpur on Saturday. Gill said that the longest format was the most satisfying one for him and he’s looking forward to the challenge that Afghanistan will pose. “For me, this is the most satisfying format. If you do well in this format, that’s how I feel most good about myself. The feel of wearing the whites, wearing the baggy cap. Nothing beats that, it’s the traditional way, the OG way of playing cricket,” he said in a video by BCCI. Gill also said that after so many months of T20s, including the World Cup and the IPL, the players have to face a lot of mental challenges while switching formats. “The weather is very different. You play T20 at night and now it’s almost 40 degrees so there’s a lot of mental challenges that comes into play. And apart from all …

Why India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan matters more than it seems

Why India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan matters more than it seems

A local Punjab pacer who bowled in the Afghanistan nets at the New PCA Stadium on Thursday was treated to a surprise during his stint. “Inka Test squad bilkul alag hai (their Test team is quite different),” he said with evident admiration. For a young Test nation — just eight years old — the diverse options are noteworthy. Even with a horde of their white-ball superstars not around, there is promise in Hashmatullah Shahidi’s camp. But limitations of having only played a collective 12 Tests sometimes show up in the form of a standard Indian bowler in the nets. “I bowled Rahmanullah Gurbaz twice in the nets,” the young seamer said, detailing his experience to a bowling partner. India, meanwhile, can ill afford even a trace of such complacency in the gruelling New Chandigarh heat. Even with only a week’s turnaround from the IPL season, preparations at their latest Test venue were far from relaxed. Head coach Gautam Gambhir on Friday insisted that Shubman Gill’s men had already crossed a major transitional hurdle in England …

Rashid Khan unlikely to feature in Afghanistan’s one-off Test vs India: ‘There is no target in Test cricket’ | Cricket News

3 min readApr 9, 2026 05:29 PM IST Rashid Khan remains non-committal about featuring in Afghanistan’s one-off Test against India that is scheduled to be played in Mullanpur in June after the Indian Premier League (IPL). The star spinner said that he was advised by his doctor to stay away from red-ball cricket to prolong his career in the sport and that, along with the fact that Afghanistan don’t play in the World Test Championship, has resulted in him having to put Test cricket on the backburner. “It’s a little difficult in red ball, because that was the first thing which was told to me by the doctor, ‘You have to stay away from red ball.’ But I still played a Test against Zimbabwe,” Rashid told reporters after starring in Gujarat Titan’s one-run win over Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Thursday. Rashid had been diagnosed with a back injury before the 2023 World Cup and since then, he has had to ration his appearances in Test cricket. Rashid last played in a Test against …

Renuka Thakur Ruled out for One-Off Test Against Australia; Kashvee Gautam Named as Replacement

The pacer Renuka Thakur has been ruled out of the only test in the India Women’s tour of Australia 2026 to manage her workload. She has been advised to rest and will be unavailable for the selection of the Pinkball test, and the BCCI medical team will be closely monitoring Renuka’s fitness progress. Meanwhile, Kashvee Gautam has been named as the replacement, who was named as part of the ODI squad in the multi-format series. Renuka Thakur was part of the T20I and ODI series against Australia, where she picked four wickets in the short format while managing a lone wicket in the two appearances in the ODI leg, having not played the second match. Renuka Thakur has featured in three tests since debuting in the format in December 2023, bagging two wickets at an average of 90.50. Her absence renders India considerably short on experience in the pace department. “Team India pacer Renuka Thakur has been ruled out of the Only-Test at the WACA Ground in Perth, which is part of the ongoing multi-format …

“We Lost the Opportunity” Gary Stead on Abandoned One-Off Test Against Afghanistan

With the one-off test between Afghanistan and New Zealand having been abandoned, the black caps head coach Gary Stead was left frustrated to have been denied a chance to play Afghanistan. The one-off test has been abandoned without a ball bowled as rain and a wet outfield played a spoilsport at Noida. The Blackcaps were aiming to get familiar with subcontinent conditions for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka and India. While speaking at the post-match conference, Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott expressed his disappointment over the match being abandoned. Meanwhile, Gary Stead said, “The most disappointing part for us is that we lost the opportunity to be match-hardened and match-ready when we go into our Test match [against Sri Lanka] next week.”  “The guys are really disappointed. It was an opportunity to play Afghanistan. It doesn’t come around that often. “They have some unique bowlers – it’s always good to get your head around how you face them. The way they play is a little bit different from other countries. It’s always learning what …
