IRCTC sets new records in online ticket booking, blocks 3 crore suspicious IDs in 2025-26

New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) intensified its anti-fraud and cybersecurity initiatives during the year to ensure genuine passengers receive fair access to ticket bookings and to curb misuse of the system. IRCTC booked an average of 14.53 lakh tickets per day during 2025-26. (PTI) As part of these efforts, IRCTC informed that the corporation deactivated 3.03 crore suspicious user IDs in 2025. It also intercepted substantial volumes of malicious online traffic on a regular basis, helping safeguard the integrity of the ticketing system. In its official data, IRCTC said that in coordination with law enforcement agencies, 501 complaints were lodged on the National Cyber Crime Portal pertaining to 4.18 lakh suspicious PNRs. Additionally, 6.05 crore suspicious user IDs were placed under revalidation to verify their authenticity and prevent misuse. IRCTC also took action against fraudulent digital identities by blocking 13,343 suspicious email domains during the year. The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Google and Apple to strictly act against the dissemination of obscene pornographic content through mobile applications hosted on their online platforms, remarking that it cannot permit an entire generation to be “ruined”. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia said in the present legal framework, the social media intermediaries have to play the “most vital role” and they should act against the dissemination of pornographic content not only upon receiving a complaint but even at the time of uploading by exercising due diligence. Delhi Police has arrested four “radicalised” men from Maharashtra, Odisha, and Bihar who allegedly planned terror activities, carried out recce of sensitive locations to target them and attempted to recruit others through encrypted online platforms, officials said on Saturday. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and related material were seized during the operation, police said. Two of the accused were in the process of assembling a remote-controlled toy car fitted with an IED to target crowded places, they alleged. The Ministry of Electronics and IT has sent an advisory to online platforms, including social media companies, asking them not to host obscene, or vulgar content, calling for “greater rigour” in adhering to provisions of the law. The ministry has also directed platforms to carry out an immediate review of their internal compliance frameworks. “…certain categories of content circulating on social media and other intermediary platforms may not be in compliance with applicable laws relating to decency and obscenity given rise to concerns among different sections of society regarding the responsible use of digital platforms and the need for continued adherence to the constitutional framework governing freedom of speech and expression,” MeitY said in the advisory. Karnataka HC passes interim order directing online platforms to remove shared videos of its proceedings | Bangalore News

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday passed an interim order directing online platforms and accounts sharing videos of the live-streamed proceedings of the court to take down the clips. The order was passed by a bench of Justice Hemant Chandangoudar in response to a petition filed by the Advocates Association of Bengaluru. The petition comes in the wake of controversy sparked by certain statements made by a judge of the Karnataka High Court, which subsequently was shared widely on social media. While the platforms restrained by the interim order are YouTube, Facebook, and X, the restrained accounts named in the petition are Kahale News, Fans Troll, Pratidhvani, Avaniyana, and Ravindra Joshi Creations. The interim order called for the platforms to refrain from sharing the proceedings and said the accounts have to refrain from uploading live streamed videos.
