On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of the operation, declaring victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war after a nearly three-month-long battle on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh. On Sunday (July 26, 2026), the Army will host a ‘Shradhanjali Samaroh’ – wreath laying ceremony – at the Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh’s Drass to pay homage to the bravehearts of the war.
