Earlier on Saturday, Lebanese authorities said it was investigating whether Israel was behind the capture of a Lebanese sea captain who was taken away by a group of armed men who had landed on the coast near the northern town of Batroun on Friday. “The operative has been transferred to Israeli territory and is currently being investigated,” the military official said, without providing the name of the person in detention. The operation marks the first time Israel has announced it deployed troops deep into northern Lebanon to take a senior Hezbollah operative captive since the conflict between the two sides escalated in late September. NIA arrests alleged terror operative during pan-India searches

In a massive pan-India crackdown against terrorists` outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), the NIA on Saturday conducted searches at 26 locations in five states and arrested one person and questioned several suspects involved in motivating youth into committing violent terror attacks across the country, according to an official statement. Sheikh Sultan Salah Uddin Ayubi alias Ayubi was taken into custody after searches at 26 locations in Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, it said. The accused was arrested on account of his incriminatory role in the conspiracy case, said the statement issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He will be produced before the NIA special court, Patiala House, New Delhi, it added. In addition, “several other suspects” have also been rounded up for questioning, the NIA said. The suspects were engaged in radicalising individuals associated with Pakistan-based JeM and were engaged in disseminating terrorist related propaganda, and “radicalising and recruiting youth into the Jamaat outfit” inspired by it, it said. Maharashtra: SIMI operative arrested in Jalgaon by Delhi Police

A 47-year-old member of Students` Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) who also allegedly edited a magazine of the banned organisation besides indoctrinating many gullible youths has been arrested by the Delhi Police, officials said on Sunday. Hanif Sheikh was declared a proclaimed offender in 2002 and has been absconding for the last 22 years. He was nabbed on February 22 from Bhusawal in Jalgaon district in Maharashtra where he was a teacher in an Urdu school under a different identity, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell)  Alok Kumar claimed that Hanif was the most notorious and wanted SIMI terrorist who had played pivotal roles in various activities of the proscribed organisation across the country. Delhi`s Tis Hazari Court on Tuesday granted transit remand of Lashkar operative Riyaz Ahmad Rather, the key conspirator of the recently busted terror module in Kupwara, to Jammu and Kashmir Police. Rather, a retired army personnel, was arrested by Delhi Police on February 4 from New Delhi Railway station and his arrest was informed to the Jammu and Kashmir Police from which specific information was received about him. Centre declares Hizbul operative Asif Maqbool Dar as terrorist under UAPA | Latest News India

The ministry of home affairs has designated Hizb-ul-Mujahideen operative Dr Asif Maqbool Dar as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. In a notification issued on Saturday, the ministry said Dar, presently based in Saudi Arabia, has been involved in instigating the youth of Kashmir Valley using social media platforms for terrorist activities. “Dr. Asif Maqbool Dar is one of the leading radical voices on social media and involved in nefariously influencing Kashmiri youth to take up arms against Indian Government and Security Forces,” the ministry alleged. Dar is accused in a case relating to conspiracy hatched by the cadres of terrorist organisation to undertake violent terrorist act in Jammu and Kashmir and major cities in India, including New Delhi, on the direction of handlers based across the border. The National Investigating Agency (NIA) is probing the case. The central government believes that Dar is “involved in terrorism and…is to be added as a terrorist under the said Act”, the notification said.
