Finn Allen-Tim Seifert take down UAE in violent onslaught, serving stark warning to New Zealand’s upcoming opponents

Finn Allen-Tim Seifert take down UAE in violent onslaught, serving stark warning to New Zealand’s upcoming opponents

As dusk set in at Chepauk, the sky spreading its palette of colours, Finn Allen decided to show his true colours. He biffed Junaid Siddique, a medium pacer born in Multan, over the sight-screen. A wide and dot ball later, he jumped to the off-side, balanced himself on one knee and scooped Siddiqui for a six over fine leg. A brace of fours off the last two balls took the returns from the over to 22 runs, and put New Zealand on a frantic path to surmount the competent, but not daunting, target of 174. In the city of Carnatic music, a heavy metal concert was in full swing. Eventually, they consumed just 15.2 overs without losing a wicket to emerge victors in a relentless carnage of boundaries, bolstering their net run rate in the group of death, which they have almost negotiated safely. But sinisterly for other teams, New Zealand are steadily peaking in a tournament they have bafflingly underperformed in, fixing one flaw after another. It’s classic New Zealand; they are seldom pre-tournament …

Grzegorz Gajewski interview: ‘All of Gukesh’s opponents in chess experience pressure, just not as high as him’ | Chess News

It’s been a turbulent year on the throne for the youngest world champion in chess history. Tournaments were plentiful, but success elusive as Gukesh Dommaraju broadened his focus from classical chess to playing in rapid and blitz events, freestyle chess and exhibition events as well in 2025. Each defeat for the world champion at events like the FIDE World Cup and the FIDED Grand Swiss would set tongues wagging with unprecedented scrutiny on his form. For Gukesh, 2026 will mean a chance to narrow his focus once more to classical chess since he will have to defend his world championship title at the end of the year. As the youngest world champion in history gears up to start his 2026 at the Tata Steel Chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee, The Indian Express caught up with his coach from the past three years, Grzegorz Gajewski, to talk about the 19-year-old’s 2025 and what awaits in 2026. Excerpts from an interview: Question: After the year that Gukesh has had in 2025, what will he focus on …

Harmanpreet Singh goes looking for a mental edge by staking out opponents’ mindsets, as stakes turn high in 2026 | Hockey News

Harmanpreet Singh goes looking for a mental edge by staking out opponents’ mindsets, as stakes turn high in 2026 | Hockey News

Harmanpreet Singh speaks like a spy on a covert mission. Mindset. Observation. What he’s watching — and how he knows they’re watching him. During the Hockey India League, the India captain closely studies foreign players. Their body-play, angles and little tricks to gain small but decisive advantages. It is not admiration alone. It is analysis. “How can we develop that? When I go back to the national team, how can I show it to my teammates there?” Then there’s Vincent Vanasch. The ‘best goalkeeper in the world’, Harmanpreet, one of the world’s best drag-flickers, says. Training sessions between the JSW Sports Soorma HC teammates aren’t merely that. “What is his mindset, what does he observe?” Harmanpreet wonders. “Or when I am playing against any opponent, how do their keepers observe me?” Because when Harmanpreet stands over a penalty corner, it’s never just about power. It’s psychological warfare. He wants to know how goalkeepers think — so he can think one move ahead. “I try to have good conversations with them so I know how to …

Ms. Shinde, a former mayor and a candidate in the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) polls, claimed the audio clip attributed to her could have been manipulated or generated using morphing or artificial intelligence techniques. “I have lodged a complaint with the police, and they are investigating the matter,” Ms. Shinde told reporters. A row erupted after an audio clip allegedly containing derogatory remarks directed at members of the Agri community went viral. Local political leaders and community activists attributed the remarks to Ms. Shinde and demanded action. Bhiwandi MP Suresh Mhatre (NCP-SP) submitted a complaint demanding prompt legal action, stating that the remarks had deeply hurt the feelings of the Agri community. Shiv Sena (UBT) distanced itself from the political row, with party leaders condemning the incident. They said the usage …

Treesa-Gayatri, Kidambi Srikanth reach Syed Modi finals; Japanese Kaho-Mai and Jason Gunawan their respective opponents | Badminton News

Travelling from Hyderabad to Lucknow for the Syed Modi International Super 300, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Kidambi Srikanth, were looking to cook a storm, and they are almost there after making finals. But, comebacks from injury are a slow-cook. Like the biryanis of both cities – kachhi Hyderabadi where meat is cooked raw with the rice, and the pakki Awadhi, with its pre-cooked ingredients, the proof is in beating the lows, and getting results. For the Hyderabad-based shuttler trio, the wait for a title has demanded patient stirring of the pot, and the final garnish on Sunday, could still make or break 2025. Top seeds Treesa-Gayatri, defending champions at Lucknow, defeated Carmen Ting and Ong Yin Xee 21-11, 21-15, taking turns to push both Malaysians back and pinging drops to the front court. Treesa, who lost the mixed doubles semis with Hariharan Amsakarunan, was sharper in her front court stomp, result of the mixed paired event she’s been playing all season. Gayatri, heavily strapped and returning after a precautionary break and sturdy rehab from her …

Saina Nehwal – ‘Current generation has good strokes, but lacks explosive power to shock opponents like Sindhu or me’ | Badminton News

It was Siri Fort Badminton Complex where Saina Nehwal became the first-ever Indian woman shuttler to achieve the BWF World No 1 ranking back in 2015. Ten years later on Sunday, Saina returned to the same complex as part of the Legends Vision initiative of Yonex where former greats of the game like Lin Dan, Taufik Hidayat, Peter Gade, Lee Chong Wei come together to promote the sport. In an exclusive conversation with the Indian Express, the 2012 London Olympic medallist discussed the current situation of Indian badminton, the next generation, why they lack in power, and why smart phones have made them ‘soft’ when competing. Excerpts: Yours and PV Sindhu’s game was built on strength and power which gave you the success you had. Do you think the current crop of players have similar strength and power? Saina Nehwal: I feel strength and power come to an athlete naturally. They can be developed later also but at an early age, it is pretty much natural. The current set of players have really good strokes …
