Why top tennis players like Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka are unhappy with French Open organisers | Tennis News

2 min readMay 4, 2026 06:05 PM IST Some of the world’s top tennis players have put out a statement expressing their ‘deep disappointment’ at the prize money on offer at the French Open this year. The players include names like Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka. Novak Djokovic’s name was missing from the statement. Sinner and Co are angered by the fact that the French Open organisers announced that the prize money for the second Grand Slam of the year will be increased by around 10% for an overall pot of 61.7 million euros ($72.1 million), with the total amount up 5.3 million euros from last year. But the players pointed out in their statement that this increase means that the players’ share of French Open tournament revenue has declined from 15.5% in 2024 to 14.9% projected in 2026. According to French Open organisers’ announcement last week, men’s and women’s singles winners will pocket 2.8 million euros while the runners-up in both categories will walk away with 1.4 million euros. The semifinalists will …

Following the incident, local authorities took cognisance of the violation and filed a police case against the event organisers. Mammootty once declined a Best Actor award after organisers overlooked him and favoured their friend Mohanlal for 6 years: ‘Better give it to him this time too’ | Malayalam News

5 min readKochiMar 20, 2026 07:09 PM IST Ever since they made their debut in credited roles in 1980, Mohanlal and Mammootty have been assets to Malayalam cinema. Since the mid-1980s, when they attained superstardom, the two have also been the pillars of the industry. Although several new actors have stepped into the limelight since then and even achieved stardom, Mohanlal and Mammootty’s thrones remain unshaken. Even after four and a half decades, the two are each other’s sole competitors. The unofficial battle between them, however, has never been just about box-office collections. In fact, the longstanding question Malayalees have been racking their brains over isn’t who among them is the biggest superstar, but rather who is the better actor. Although many have tried to find an answer to this question over the years, most Malayalees prefer it remain unsolved so the topic can instantly liven up their hangouts and drinking sessions. Emma Raducanu has questioned her match timings for the first round of the Australian Open. The British pro tennis player, who has one Grand Slam to her name, was part of a warm-up event in Hobart and had reached the quarter-finals. Her flight then got delayed and she finally reached Melbourne on Saturday. Now Raducanu is set to play her 1st round against Thai player Mananchaya Sawangkaew on Sunday. With less than ideal time to get completely match-fit, Raducanu has questioned the merits of the Australian Open scheduling. “You would love to have more time in the environment, more time practising, but I guess I was pretty much handed the schedule to try and turn it around. “I have to make the most out of what is in front of me. It’s easy to complain about it, but it’s not going to help,” she said to reporters. Raducanu, after the high of winning the 2021 US Open, has struggled to reach those same levels.
