For the greater part of this past summer, I wore six smart rings at once. I wanted to see which was best, and the Oura Ring Gen 3 was the clear winner. Well, it’s been about two weeks since my experiment ended, and there’s now a new winner: the Oura Ring 4. Oura has been the top dog in smart rings for the past decade. So long as you don’t have new product FOMO, this is an excellent opportunity for bargain hunters. Retailers and companies love discounts on older models right after launching a new one! This is the Horizon model as well, which is normally more expensive than the base Gen 3 due to its fully round shape. Given that Oura comes with a $6 monthly subscription to unlock all the features, getting a discount on hardware can help take some of the sting out. That said, Gen 3 inventory won’t last forever. Even if you have FOMO, you won’t be missing out on much. I’ve used the Gen 3 for the past three years and tested a bunch of the competition — this is still the clear winner in my book. Oura is giving its popular smart ring and app a substantial makeover. The company just announced the $349 Oura Ring 4, which will feature a slimmer design, improved accuracy, and more sizes. Starting today, the Oura app will also be getting a complete redesign to better organize the swath of new features introduced over the past few months. At a glance, the Oura Ring 4 doesn’t look too different from the Gen 3. However, the new ring will be fully made from titanium. (The previous ring had an epoxy interior.) All the rings will also be completely round, like the current Horizon models, with no flat edge. Perhaps most notably, the sensors no longer have protruding dome-shaped covers. Instead, they’re recessed for a flatter, more comfortable profile.
