Women’s lawn bowls pair, boxer Siwach shine in ordinary day for India

Women’s lawn bowls pair, boxer Siwach shine in ordinary day for India

3 min readUpdated: Jul 25, 2026 11:35 PM IST The India lawn bowls women’s pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh as well as boxer Sachin Siwach were the shining lights in an otherwise disappointing day for India at the Commonwealth Games (CWG). In lawn bowls, men’s singles Putul Sonowal suffered his first defeat after back to back victories in the Games while swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar (3:58.09s) and Aryan Nehra (4:00.26s) failed to qualify for the final of the 400m freestyle event. Also, it was a day to forget for the wheelchair women’s basketball team, with India losing 1-16 vs Wales in their Group B match. Siwach, a medal prospect, beat familiar foe Keoma Al-Ahmadieh of Canada in a round of 32 clash which he won 4-1 in a split verdict in the men’s first round bout at the SEC Centre. The 26-year-old will next face England’s William Hewitt in the round of 16. In lawn bowls competition, Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh maintained their impressive momentum with a third straight win in …

Denied refund as he used new pair of shoes to ‘identify’ defect, buyer wins Rs 7,000 payout | Legal News

5 min readNew DelhiJul 22, 2026 01:00 PM IST Observing that consumers cannot be denied a refund merely because they used a product to identify a defect, a consumer body in Uttarakhand held a footwear company, Red Chief, guilty of deficiency in service for allegedly refusing to replace or issue a refund for a pair defective shoes purchased online. Finding no evidence to support the company’s claim of accidental damage, it directed replacement or refund of Rs 2,009, along with Rs 5,000 compensation. A bench of president Ranjna Goyal and members Amaresh Rawat and Gagan Kumar Gupta of the Haridwar District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission also awarded litigation costs of Rs 2,000, noting that the complainant’s assertion that the shoes tore within a month remained unchallenged. “It is a matter of common sense that when a consumer purchases a product such as shoes, some use of the product is necessary to determine whether it is defective. If a defect becomes apparent within a short period of use, the company cannot refuse to replace the product …

Vasquez & Montes: Mexico’s unbreachable defensive pair facing England | Football News

3 min readJul 5, 2026 05:42 PM IST Along with European champions Spain, co-hosts Mexico is the only team yet to concede a goal in the World Cup, which explains the enormity of the task confronting Harry Kane and his England side in the Round of 16 match at the Azteca Stadium. In modern football, teams generally attack and defend as a unit. But there are still individuals who are key to the effectiveness of the endeavour. In the case of the Mexican defence, they are Cesar Montes and Johan Vasquez, two friends who hail from the same region of the country, have grown in the game together and are now jointly responsible to keep El Tri’s back door shut, giving their attacking players the freedom and confidence to go in search of goals. “I think I was about 10 or 11 years old when I first saw him. We met at Pachuca, and that’s where we realised we were from the same state, the same region, the same area,” Vasquez told FIFA about his …

‘Vincelotti’ pair is giving Brazil sceptics a reason to believe again at FIFA World Cup

‘Vincelotti’ pair is giving Brazil sceptics a reason to believe again at FIFA World Cup

Vinicius Junior could scarcely conceal his delight after Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Haiti on Saturday. Truth be told, he made little effort to. There was not an iota of reticence in his grin. In an all-scourging world that lacks a moral compass, not acting stoically could be precarious. Yet, the standard-bearer of football’s most decorated team does exactly that. At a Brazil press conference in 2024, he broke down in tears. Not snivelling, but bawling. Unrelenting racism testing his tolerance threshold, Vinicius had announced: “I am losing the will to play football.” Two years later, you would find it hard to believe he ever contemplated retirement. Tricks forged in the favelas, showboat celebrations and the improvisation that has become increasingly rare in elite football have all returned. When confronted with the inevitable question — what had changed after an unconvincing 1-1 stalemate against Morocco? — Vinicius offered a remarkably simple explanation: “Today I played in a different position. The coach asked me to.” Across the two press conferences, one figure remained constant. Carlo Ancelotti. Tears …

Former opener says Gill-Rohit partnership is ‘Greatest pair in ODI cricket’

Former opener says Gill-Rohit partnership is ‘Greatest pair in ODI cricket’

2 min readJun 12, 2026 02:34 PM IST Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have dovetailed pretty well at the top of the order. While Rohit has been more aggressive with his batting, Gill played the second fiddle in the initial overs but went on to make consistent scores and anchor the middle overs, becoming a reliable batter. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra lauded the pairing. “Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma’s opening partnership, it is right now the greatest pair in ODI cricket. We are talking about more than 2,000 runs. I am looking at the average. Theirs is 63.8, Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy had an average of 58.4, Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes had an average of 52.6, and Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar had an average of 49.3,” the former India opener said. “They have scored 2,360 runs, and have 14 fifty-plus stands and seven century partnerships. So, this is the modern-day best opening combination in terms of the average. That actually is a good story,” he added. “Rohit Sharma is only six …

Shweta Tripathi and husband Chaitnya Sharma pair up onscreen for Akarsh Khurana’s play ‘External Affairs’

Shweta Tripathi and husband Chaitnya Sharma pair up onscreen for Akarsh Khurana’s play ‘External Affairs’

Some love stories begin over coffee. Some begin mid-scene, under stage lights, with cues being missed and hearts quietly finding their rhythm. For Shweta Tripathi and Chaitnya Sharma, it began in a rehearsal room years ago, under the direction of Akarsh Khurana. And now, in what feels less like coincidence and more like a beautifully written callback, they return to the stage together with ‘External Affairs.’ Shweta and Chaitnya back on stage This time, though, the script has changed. They’re no longer just co-actors figuring out blocking and lines; they’re life partners and for the very first time, playing a romantic couple on stage. Art imitates life, but with better lighting. Training with former Olympics champion Peter Wilson, Indian pair of Vivaan Kapoor and Neeru Dhanda, strike bronze

4 min readMay 11, 2026 12:01 AM IST In what was a daunting qualification followed by a rainy spell in the final, the Indian trap mixed team of Vivaan Kapoor and Neeru Dhanda claimed the country’s second medal in the event in a ISSF World Cup since the event was reintroduced in Olympics with the bronze medal in the ISSF World Cup Shotgun at Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Indian pair, which had finished second in qualification, won the bronze medal in a field including the Italian team of Paris Olympics silver medalist Silvana Stanco and two-time Olympian and 2022 mixed team world champion Mauro De Filippis and 2022 world championships mixed team runner-up Kun-Pi Yang and Wan-Yu Liu of Chinese Taipei. With London Olympics double trap champion and now Indian foreign coach Peter Wilson watching from the coaches’ corner, the Indian pair gave a tough fight. “In the qualification as well as final, both me and Neeru were focussing on our process. We were not thinking about whom we were competing against. Yes, some of them …

Satwik in Wonderland: The optimism that powers India’s greatest doubles pair | Badminton News

Satwik in Wonderland: The optimism that powers India’s greatest doubles pair | Badminton News

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy was once that Peter Pan of endless, undiminishing, unfazed, unbroken optimism. Nothing could destroy his positivity — the hulking smash-maestro of Indian badminton had an indestructible mind. He bent reality, inhabited an Alt Universe while winning one of the biggest titles on Tour. He even made Chirag Shetty – who compulsively Googles every new thing, and doubly, triply checks the smallest details – buy into his hypnotic idea, as they disrupted global badminton by becoming the first Indian No 1s in doubles, while coming from a country with no pedigree in doubles. You could pin Satwik’s ridiculous self-belief down to a specific date – June 16, 2023. Though Satwik in Wonderland went on till 18 June, 2023, when India’s finest doubles duo won the Indonesia Open. Back then, Satwik-Chirag had not learnt to ration their energy, hold back and save themselves for just big events, like a PV Sindhu could. Or to check themselves in strokeplay, to keep a few tricks hidden from opponents. They would go all-out, unafraid, and play an unrestrained, …
