Pallichattambi Kerala Box Office Extended 1st Weekend: Tovino Thomas’ film faces wrath of Vaazha 2, grosses Rs 9 crore in 5 days

Pallichattambi Kerala Box Office Extended 1st Weekend: Tovino Thomas’ film faces wrath of Vaazha 2, grosses Rs 9 crore in 5 days

Malayalam movie Pallichattambi is struggling at the box office. Headlined by Tovino Thomas, the period action drama opened on a good note but failed to maintain the same momentum over the weekend. It debuted with Rs. 3.05 crore in Kerala, followed by a big drop on Day 2, where it collected Rs. 1.75 crore. It further dropped on Day 3 and added Rs. 1.20 crore to the tally. Pallichattambi witnessed a nominal spike on Day 4, followed by another jump on Day 5, when it grossed Rs. 1.70 crore.  This took its extended opening weekend’s cume to Rs. 9 crore gross at the Kerala box office. That’s not an encouraging weekend opening for a Tovino Thomas starrer. The movie has a guest appearance by Prithviraj Sukumaran, but that’s not luring much audience to the cinemas. One major factor behind its underwhelming box office run could be mixed word-of-mouth, other than strong competition from Vaazha 2, which is showing no signs of dropping anytime soon.  Pallichattambi has almost sealed its fate at the box office. Prithviraj Empuraan Mohanlal

Prithviraj Empuraan Mohanlal

Although it emerged as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, only to be dethroned later by Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, actor-turned-director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan opened to mixed reviews upon release. Despite being the most anticipated Malayalam film of 2025, marking the second instalment in a planned trilogy, Empuraan failed to impress a large section of the audience, who were mostly disappointed that it didn’t live up to the first part, Lucifer (2019). What added to its woes was a controversy that erupted soon after the film’s release, with right-wing organisations taking offence at the scenes set against the backdrop of the 2002 Gujarat riots, as they didn’t align with their narrative. Since then, fans have been concerned about whether the proposed third part of the franchise would see the light of day. Pallichattambi movie review: Tovino Thomas, Kayadu Lohar’s period action drama is a major letdown | Movie-review News

Pallichattambi movie review: Tovino Thomas, Kayadu Lohar’s period action drama is a major letdown | Movie-review News

Pallichattambi Movie Review & Rating: One of the main issues with director Dijo Jose Antony’s movies is that they are almost always dead set on the point they want to make. He has thus far made three films — Queen, Jana Gana Mana, and Malayalee From India — and even if each one’s tone and genre differ from the others, they can all be broadly described as social dramas that carry several messages. The major shortcoming of these films is that they primarily focus on the messages rather than on how they are presented. Unfortunately, his latest film, Pallichattambi, is no different, as almost everything is spelt out for us, leaving no room for reflection (or subtlety). Set mostly in the late 1950s, when Kerala was being ruled by one of the first democratically elected Communist governments in the world, Pallichattambi unfolds against the picturesque backdrop of the hilly village of Kaniyaar. This was also the time when religious institutions and certain political outfits began pushing back against the government’s pro-tenant, anti-feudal bills and ordinances, paving …
