In a new twist to the alleged ‘honour’ killing in Palnadu district, Macherla Town Police Station Circle Inspector Venkata Ramana, was suspended for acting in favour of the father of deceased Chowdeswari, who is accused of killing her. Orders to this effect were issued on Sunday. The accused, Chandra Sreenu, is reported to have strangled his 22-year-old daughter Chowdeswari to death on March 18, as she married against his wishes. “Following allegations that CI Venkata Ramana did favour to the accused by accepting money, the police officer was suspended,” said Guntur Range Inspector of Police (IGP) Sarvashresth Tripathi. The victim, Chowdeswari, had left her house on March 4 and married Nagaraju of Jammalamadaka village, against the wishes of her family. Mr. Chandra Sreenu lodged a ‘woman missing’ complaint with Macherla Town police, later. He even staged a protest and threatened to commit suicide by dousing with petrol alleging that police were negligent in tracing his daughter. Palnadu District Superintendent of Police Kanchi Srinivasa Rao said that negligence of the driver led to a bus accident, but swift action by locals and police averted a major tragedy. At around 5.45 a.m., a non-AC bus of Sri Lakshmi Gayatri Travels, with 40 passengers on board, overturned at Shantinagar village. The driver lost control on the vehicle which swerved off the road and overturned. Alerted by locals, police teams from Nakirikallu and Narasaraopet rushed to the spot and pulled the passengers out of the vehicle. Eight passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to a hospital. Janardhan Reddy, inspected the road repair works at Petlurivari Palem, Narsaraopet mandal, in Palnadu district on December 2. Mr. Janardhan Reddy said, “We have undertaken road repair works in all districts across the State today, with the goal of pothole-free roads.” In Palnadu district alone, 133 projects covering repairs across 935 km of road have been initiated at a cost ₹38.65 crore.  The State government is working towards achieving pothole-free roads by Sankranthi and allocated ₹861 crore for this purpose. “Due to the negligence of the previous YSRCP government, the roads are in an extremely bad condition. Payments to contractors were also delayed because of which work the works were halted,” he said. “We have prepared proposals to develop approximately 3,300 km of roads under the PPP model. Based on the feasibility, we will construct four-lane roads. Currently, roadworks worth about ₹76,000 crore are under way on national highways across the State.”  Published – December 02, …

Six people killed in bus-lorry collision in Andhra`s Palnadu district

As many as six people were charred to death after a bus they were travelling in collided with a lorry in Andhra Pradesh`s Palnadu district, police said on Wednesday. The injured were given first aid at the Chilakaluripet town government hospital and referred to Guntur for further treatment. The deceased have been identified as Anji (35), Uppgundur Kashi (65), Uppugundur Lakshmi (55), and Mupparaju Khyati Saishri (8), all residents of district Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh. The identities of the other two deceased are being ascertained, they said. “The injured people informed that a total of 42 people were travelling in the bus after casting their vote on Monday. Among them a lorry driver, a bus driver and four others died on the spot,” said an official of the Chilakaluripeta rural police station. “It is reported that six people died in this accident,” police said. Clashes broke out between workers of the ruling party Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) during the Idhemi Karma on Friday in Macherla in Andhra Pradesh‘s Palnadu district, forcing the police to impose Section 144 in the town, news agency ANI reported. The incident occurred when Telugu Desam Party supporters, led by Macherla party in-charge Julakanti Brahma Reddy, were participating in the ‘Idhemi Karma’ programme. In between, the YSRCP and TDP activists attacked each other with stones and sticks and many were injured in the clash, Deccan Chronicle reported.
