Palworld Developer Pocketpair Says It Was Forced to Make ‘Necessary’ Changes to Game After Nintendo Lawsuit

Palworld developer Pocketpair said Thursday it has had to make changes to its survival game in light of Nintendo’s patent infringement lawsuit filed last year. The Japanese studio confirmed significant alterations to gameplay features and mechanics in Palworld that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company alleged infringed on their intellectual property. The changes were “necessary” to avoid further degradation of the gameplay experience and disruption to Palworld development and distribution, Pocketpair said. Palworld Patched in Light of Lawsuit A patch released on November 30, 2024, removed the ability to summon Pals, the Pokémon-style creatures in Palworld, by throwing Pal Spheres, changing the mechanic to a static summon next to the player, Pocketpair said in a blog post on its website. Last year, Nintendo had alleged in its lawsuit that this particulate mechanic represented one of three instances of patent infringement in the survival-action game. Patch v0.3.11 also included other changes in response to the lawsuit. Additionally, Pocketpair said Palworld’s newest patch would implement yet another gameplay “compromise”. With Patch v0.5.5, Pals can no longer be utilised …

Palworld had to remove game features because of Nintendo lawsuit

The ongoing lawsuit between Nintendo and Palworld developer Pocketpair has forced the studio to make some changes to its Pokémon-like game. In a new blog post, Pocketpair explained that a patch in November removed certain gameplay features, and that an upcoming update will cull even more. “We have had to make certain compromises in order to avoid disruptions to the development and distribution of Palworld,” the studio says. This started with a patch on November 30th, which most notably removed the ability to summon creatures by throwing a “Pal Sphere,” which is reminiscent of summoning pokémon with a Poké Ball. The studio adds that other changes were made, without specifying what they were. “As many have speculated, these changes were indeed a result of the ongoing litigation.” “As many have speculated, these changes were indeed a result of the ongoing litigation,” Pocketpair explains. “Everyone here at Pocketpair was disappointed that this adjustment had to be made, and we fully understand that many players feel the same frustration. Palworld and PUBG are getting dating sims

The developers of Palworld and PUBG: Battlegrounds have announced details of dating simulators set in the universes of their respective games. The Palworld dating sim, technically called Pal♡world! ~More Than Just Pals~, was actually announced ahead of April Fools’ Day last year. But yesterday, developer Pocketpair released a second trailer for the game and published an official Steam listing, so it seems like it’s a bit closer to actually releasing. According to the Steam page, “You, the protagonist, enroll as a transfer student in the prestigious Palpagos Private Academy. You will meet unique friends (pals) and enjoy school life through friendship and romance. It’s up to you whether you stay friends with the pals, develop romantic relationships with them, or even dismember and eat them.” Pal♡world’s initial trailer stated the game would release on an April 1st, 2025, but the newly launched Steam page says its release date is “to be announced.” PUBG’s dating sim, called “Winner Winner Romantic Dinner,” is an April Fools’ Day promotion that will let you get to know the game’s …

Palworld developer has no idea why Nintendo’s suing over its Pokémon-like game

Pocketpair has responded to the lawsuit filed against it by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The studio that developed Palworld, the game at the heart of the suit, issued a statement early this morning saying it doesn’t know what patents it violated. “At this moment, we are unaware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing upon, and we have not been notified of such details,” the statement read. According to Nintendo’s press release, the reason for the lawsuit has to do with Pocketpair allegedly infringing on multiple as yet undisclosed patents. The details of the lawsuit have not yet been made public, so we do not yet know which patents and according to Pocketpair’s statement, it doesn’t know either. Though Nintendo’s not going after Pocketpair because lamballs look uncomfortably similar to wooloos, we do know the company is famously litigious in protecting its brand. Shortly after Palworld’s release, TPC ordered a programmer to take down a video that featured a mod of Palworld that replaced all the pals with pokémon. It also issued …
