(ANI Video Grab) Principal magistrate Chitranshi Arora, in a 16-page-order, noted that lack of adequate parental supervision had contributed to the incident and granted bail on a personal bond of ₹20,000. “The incident arose in the backdrop of insufficient parental monitoring…the parents of the CCL (child in conflict with law) have acknowledged their lapse, accepted responsibility for the conduct of the child, and have expressed willingness to adopt corrective and preventive measures, including strict supervision,” the order noted. The incident occurred on February 3 this year when Dhaneshra was travelling on his two-wheeler, and a speeding SUV allegedly with the teenager at the wheel, struck him and then …

New Zealand pacer Matt Henry granted parental leave, leaving for home after England match | Cricket News

2 min readUpdated: Feb 28, 2026 12:21 AM IST New Zealand pacer Matt Henry will leave for home on Friday night following the team’s T20 World Cup Super Eights defeat against England to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. Depending on the team’s semi-final qualification, Henry might return to the tournament, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said. The Black Caps are not confirmed of a semi-final berth yet. New Zealand lost by four wickets to the England team in their final Group 2 match of the Super 8 stage in the ongoing T20 World Cup which left their fate of progressing to the semi-finals on the result between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The pre-match mathematics suggests that Pakistan will need to defeat Sri Lanka by a 64-run margin or chase down the target in 13.1 overs to enter the semis (this could change based on the first innings total in tomorrow’s game). If Pakistan are unable to do that, New Zealand will enter the semi-finals. Henry scored one run and picked …

Marriage registration in Gujarat: Parental consent provision flies in the face of rights, court rulings | Legal News

4 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Feb 20, 2026 11:36 PM IST The Gujarat government’s move to mandate consent of parents for registration of a marriage flies in the face of constitutional rights of individuals that are routinely safeguarded by several court rulings. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO Agency and personal autonomy are key facets of Article 21 of the Constitution which guarantees the protection of life and personal liberty. This right has been interpreted by the Supreme Court to include the freedom to choose a partner without external interference. High Courts also routinely protect couples seeking police protection from their families. On February 16, the Gujarat High Court allowed a 16-year-old girl, who refused to return to her parents, to stay in government care. The minor’s parents had objected to her relationship with a boy of her choice, although the two were willing to wait to “attain marriageable age”. Speaking to The Indian Express, Senior Advocate Jayna Kothari said requiring parental consent is essentially an attempt to curb interfaith and intercaste marriages. “States have schemes promoting intercaste and …

Parental Alcohol Permission Linked To Risky Drinking: Study

Parental Alcohol Permission Linked To Risky Drinking: Study

Buffalo: Children and teenagers of any age who sip or taste alcohol with their parents’ permission are more likely to engage in risky drinking in young adulthood. That was the finding of a new study my colleagues and I published in the journal Addictive Behaviors. In the study, we examined questionnaires filled out annually between 2009 and 2018 by 387 adolescents starting at age 11 and an accompanying parent. Topics included history of child and parent alcohol use, beliefs about alcohol and rules about alcohol in the home. The questionnaires also asked adolescents if they ever drank alcohol with their parent’s permission, even just a few sips – and if yes, at what age they first did so. We analyzed whether drinking alcohol with parental permission during adolescence predicted alcohol outcomes in young adulthood, at ages 18 to 20. These outcomes included how often and how much they drank, alcohol use disorder symptoms and negative consequences such as self-injury and regretting things said while drinking. Then, we looked at whether the age at which this …

Judge blocks Ohio’s online parental consent law

Judge blocks Ohio’s online parental consent law

A federal judge has struck down an Ohio law that would’ve required children under 16 to get parental consent to use social media platforms. In a decision on Wednesday, US District Court Judge Algenon Marbley ruled that the law is unconstitutional, saying it violates the First Amendment. Signed in 2023, Ohio’s Social Media Parental Notification Act was set to come into force on January 15th, 2024. However, the Big Tech-backed interest group NetChoice challenged the law and won a temporary restraining order blocking it. This new decision permanently prevents the law from taking effect. “This case resides at the intersection of two unquestionable rights: the rights of children to ‘a significant measure of’ freedom of speech and expression under the First Amendment, and the rights of parents to direct the upbringing of their children free from unnecessary governmental intrusion,” Judge Marbley writes. “The decision confirms that the First Amendment protects both websites’ right to disseminate content and Americans’ right to engage with protected speech online, and policymakers must respect constitutional rights when legislating,” NetChoice director …

Character AI Introduces Parental Insights Feature, Provides Information About Teenagers’ In-App Activities

Character AI, the California-based artificial intelligence (AI) platform, introduced a new safety feature on Tuesday. Dubbed Parental Insights, the feature is aimed at the platform’s users under the age of 18. These users can add a parent or guardian’s email address, and the platform will send them a summary of their teen’s activity. The new parental control tool is aimed at offering more transparency between parents and teenagers about the latter’s in-app activities. The teenager safety feature comes after the company faced multiple lawsuits due to the AI chatbot’s harmful responses to underage users. Character AI Introduces Parental Insights Feature In a blog post, the AI firm announced the rollout of the new feature. It will be available to both the premium users and those on the free tier. All registered users under the age of 18 can access the feature and choose to send a summary of their in-app activities to their parent or guardian. “These insights help give a clearer understanding of how users under 18 engage with Character.AI,” said the post. Character.ai adds parental reports for teen chatbot usage

Character.ai adds parental reports for teen chatbot usage

Chatbot service Character.AI is adding a new ‘Parental Insights’ feature, which lets teens send a weekly report of their chatbot usage to a parents’ email address. As outlined in an announcement from the company, this report includes the daily average time spent across web and mobile, the characters that a user most frequently interacted with, and how much time they spent talking to each character. It’s part of a series of updates designed to address concerns about minors spending too much time with chatbots and encountering inappropriate content during chats. The report, which doesn’t require parents to have an account, is optional and can be set up by minor users in Character.AI’s settings. The company notes that it’s an overview of teens’ activity, not a complete log — so the contents of chatbot conversations won’t be shared. The platform bars kids under 13 years of age in most locations and under 16 in Europe. Character.AI has been introducing new features for underage users since last year, coinciding with concerns — and even legal complaints — …

Breach alert, parental nod in digital privacy rulebook | Latest News India

The ministry of electronics and information technology on Friday evening released the draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules for public consultation, setting the stage for operationalising India’s personal data protection regime more than 16 months after the act was notified in August 2023. Some of the key obligations the rules propose from a user’s perspective are requirements for a service provider to clearly and in detail specify what data is being ingested and an immediate alert in the event that their data is breached. (Representational image) These rules are the key to operationalising India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA), which has been in the making since an expert group formed under the chairpersonship of former Chief Justice of the Delhi high court AP Shah in 2011, recommended India come out with a privacy law. In 2017, a nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court unanimously recognised the fundamental right to privacy as guaranteed under the Constitution. Some of the key obligations the rules propose from a user’s perspective are requirements for a service provider to …
