E-trucks on verge of achieving commercial cost parity with diesel vehicles: Report

Heavy-duty electric trucks in India are on the verge of achieving commercial cost parity with diesel vehicles, according to a report released on Thursday that positions battery electric trucks (BETs) as a viable option for the country’s long-haul freight sector. Electrification of trucks is key to decarbonising India’s transport sector in line with India’s broader net-zero ambitions as trucks contribute to around 50% of emissions. The report was developed by C40 Cities and The Climate Pledge. (Mint file photo) The report, Electrifying Indian Highways: A Guidance Framework for Zero-Emission Freight, developed by C40 Cities and The Climate Pledge, found that 55-tonne electric trucks currently have a total cost of ownership (TCO) only 3-4% higher than comparable diesel vehicles and are expected to achieve full parity within a year. For 14-tonne and 19-tonne truck segments, the cost gap currently ranges between 10% and 24%, but the report estimates these categories could reach parity within three to four years. The findings are based on operational data from the Laneshift pilot project conducted along the Bengaluru-Chennai highway corridor …

‘EWS can’t claim parity with SC, ST, OBC in age, attempts’

The Delhi High Court has held that candidates from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) cannot claim parity in upper age limit and number of attempts with those from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Categories (OBC) in central government recruitments, including Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams, observing that the disadvantages faced by socially backward classes are distinct from those arising from economic deprivation. A bench of Justices Anil Kshetarpal and Amit Mahajan delivered the judgment while dismissing petitions filed by EWS candidates seeking similar relaxations as available to SC, ST, and OBC categories. ‘Just want to get paid as much as Akshay Kumar’: When Kareena Kapoor demanded pay parity with male stars; how to ask for it at your workplace | Workplace News

3 min readNew DelhiApr 1, 2026 11:00 PM IST In a light but striking moment, Kareena Kapoor Khan said something many women have felt for years. Sitting across from her Good Newwz co-star Akshay Kumar, she smiled and said in an interview during the film’s promotions, “I just want to get paid what Akshay Kumar gets.” Her tone may have been playful, but the message was loud and clear. It wasn’t just about her or Bollywood, but something that rings true across boardrooms, offices, and film sets everywhere. Too often, women work just as hard, showing up with just as much experience and commitment, but walking away with less. Less money. Less credit. Less recognition. Executive coach Sridhar Laxman, who’s worked with thousands of professionals through Lucid Minds Coaching, says he hears this all the time. “She got the promotion, but not the pay.” Or, “I was told to be patient.” Sometimes it’s, “I don’t want to seem ungrateful.” These aren’t isolated stories—they’re patterns. Over time, these patterns shape how women see themselves. Many begin …

High-rise curbs choking Bengaluru growth, says Shivakumar; seeks parity with other metros

New Delhi/Bengaluru, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday said high-rise development in Bengaluru is being severely constrained due to restrictions imposed by civil aviation authorities and defence establishments, impacting the city’s growth and urban planning. High-rise curbs choking Bengaluru growth, says Shivakumar; seeks parity with other metros He said multiple zones around key aviation and defence facilities have stringent limits on building heights, making it difficult to accommodate the city’s expanding population and infrastructure needs. “High-rise development in Bengaluru city is becoming increasingly restricted. We are unable to widen roads much either. On one side, there is HAL Airport, on another Kempegowda Airport, then Jakkur Airfield, and the Air Force base at Yelahanka. Because of this, high-rise construction is not permitted for several kilometres around these areas,” Shivakumar told reporters in Delhi. He said the issue was raised during a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, seeking relaxation of norms to bring Bengaluru on par with other metro cities. Highlighting the impact of these restrictions, Shivakumar said even …
