Winter Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Day 14 Live Updates: A long-pending discussion on air pollution is expected to be taken up during the Parliament’s Winter Session on Thursday, with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav slated to address the issue. Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on December 12, described the crisis as a “national health emergency” affecting millions, particularly children who are developing lung diseases. The Congress leader urged a bipartisan approach, emphasising that air pollution should not be treated as an ideological issue. “Most of our major cities are living under a blanket of poisonous air,” he said, calling for a structured discussion focused on future solutions rather than blame. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju responded affirmatively, assuring the House that the government is prepared for the debate and will coordinate with the Business Advisory Committee to allot time for it. Meanwhile, several opposition MPs on Thursday took out a protest march with photographs of Mahatma Gandhi in hand, inside the Parliament House complex against the government’s …

Uproar in Lok Sabha over ‘anti-Modi’ slogan at rally, Rijiju demands Congress apology | India News

Lok Sabha on Monday witnessed an uproar after the Treasury and Opposition benches were engaged in a heated war of words over slogans allegedly raised at the Congress rally at the Ramlila Maidan a day earlier against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leading to adjournment of proceedings. Soon after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced the commencement of Question Hour, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the alleged slogans against Modi at the Congress rally and demanded an apology from the party’s top leadership. “We are political opponents, not enemies. Congress workers have threatened to dig the grave of the prime minister at the Congress rally. This is the most unfortunate incident to happen… the entire senior Congress leadership was present at that rally,” Rijiju said, triggering protests from the Congress members. “…in 2014, a BJP MP had used an unparliamentary word against a member of the Opposition. PM Narendra Modi had immediately told his MP to tender an apology and they did so because we serve in this House as the representatives of the …

Tavleen Singh writes: Debate AQI, not Vande Mataram

December 14, 2025 06:07 AM IST First published on: Dec 14, 2025 at 06:06 AM IST This was going to be a critique of the dismal performance of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament last week. His intervention in the election reforms debate left me baffled. He meandered from khadi and kanjeevaram sarees to university vice-chancellors and the evils of the RSS to threatening the Election Commissioner. It was a depressing performance. But as I settled down to write this column, Rahul Gandhi popped up on a news channel, speaking in the Lok Sabha. This time, he raised the issue of air pollution in our cities. He said that this was a subject on which there could be no disagreement between the government and the Opposition benches. Sounding reassuringly sensible, he suggested that the rules of this debate should be that there would be no accusations hurled at each other about who did what and when. They should concentrate on solving a problem that has become a national health emergency. To tell you the …

We got jealous in Assam as there are toll gates and we cannot drive at 100-130 kmph as the quality [of the roads] is so poor. People of Assam are paying tolls but not receiving highways of good quality like in your videos. Especially, from Jorhat to Dibrugarh, NH-37 is in a bad state. The Jhanji part after your …
