Lakshmi Narayanan Tamil Nadu recorded a pass rate of 94.3% in the Class 10 State board examinations, according to the results announced by School Education Minister Rajmohan in Chennai on Wednesday (May 20, 2026). This year’s pass percentage surpassed the previous year’s 93.8%. While Pudukottai topped the State with a pass percentage of 97.57%, Sivaganga came second with 97.54%, followed by Thanjavur at 97.41%. However, the total number of students who appeared for the exams has come down from the previous year: while 8,71,239 students wrote the exams last year, only 8,70643 appeared this year. Girls outshine boys As many as 4,19,891 girls and 4,01,214 boys from 12,467 schools appeared for the exams. Girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 96.47% as against 92.15%. Kozhikode registers 99.36% pass in SSLC exams

The Kozhikode Revenue District registered a 99.36% pass percentage in the SSLC examinations this year, marginally lower than the 99.67% recorded in the 2024–25 academic year. With the latest results announced by General Education Principal Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph on Friday (May 15, 2026), Kozhikode slipped to the ninth position among districts in terms of overall pass percentage after having been among the top five districts last year. A total of 43,045 students, including 22,098 boys and 20,947 girls, appeared for the examinations this year. Of them, 42,770 students qualified for higher studies, including 21,920 boys and 20,850 girls. Last year, 43,697 out of 43,841 students who appeared for the examinations were eligible for higher studies. Education department sources said the pattern of examination was different in 2026. The question papers were set in such a way that only students with a thorough understanding of the textbook lessons could achieve top scores, they said. The results included those of the candidates from the fourth semester under the new system, supplementary candidates of the third semester, and students appearing under the old annual examination pattern. While the pass percentage among girls stood at 92.47%, boys recorded a pass percentage of 89.71%. As many as 64 candidates — including 56 boys and eight girls — featured in the top 10 list. CHENNAI: The Department of Prisons and Correctional Services, Tamil Nadu, has reported a 98.33% pass percentage in the Class XII board examinations. All the three toppers are prisoners lodged in the Central Prison, Palayamkottai. Of the 240 prisoners who wrote the exam, including seven women, 236 passed. Many prisoners secured more than 500 marks out of 600. The Tamil Nadu School Education Department had made necessary arrangements for establishing examination centres within the respective prisons, based on the request of prison officials.  P. Vinith stood first with 549 marks. He is serving a 10-year rigorous imprisonment after being convicted in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. T. Manikandan, undergoing life imprisonment in a murder case, came second with 531 marks. B. Balu, detained under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, secured the third place with 527 marks. As per the results declared by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), girls performed better than boys in the exams. Girls secured an overall pass percentage of 94.96 as against boys’ 89.56%, board chairman Trigun Kulkarni said. The Kokan division topped the list with 97.62%, while the Chatrapati Sambhajinagar division was at the bottom with 88.41%, he said.
