Former CSK batter slams Ajinkya Rahane and KKR ahead of IPL 2026 season

2 min readMar 19, 2026 08:52 PM IST Kolkata Knight Riders are approaching their IPL 2026 campaign with poor form and injury concerns compounding their woes, and former Chennai Super Kings batter S Badrinath did not mince words as he criticised the team’s overall management. Badrinath slammed KKR for backing veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane as captain for a second successive season and also questioned the team’s decision to make a record-breaking signing of Australia all-rounder Cameron Green for Rs 25.20 crore during the IPL 2026 mini-auction last December. Battling injuries and poor form since, Green has struggled to make an impact in national colours and Badrinath questioned if the Australian had it in him to win games all by himself. “You’ve signed him for 25 crores, and he is woefully out of form. He struggled massively for Australia in the T20 World Cup. Cameron Green went for so much purely because of the hype. He is not worth that much. Has he singlehandedly done anything in the IPL? Australian players always get hyped up, …

The 2024 champions snapped up Green in the IPL auction earlier this week for a whopping Rs 25.2 crore, staving off competition from Chennai Super Kings as well as Rajasthan Royals. “I’ve always been a massive fan of Cameron Green. I’m an all-rounder at heart, so I know what it takes to push the limits to be the best all-rounder that you possibly can be. And I’ve always absolutely loved everything about Cameron Green – the way he goes about his skill set as a batter, and his incredible skill set as a bowler as well,” Watson said in an interview on the franchise’s website. “He’s got incredible height, he’s got incredible skill, and I’ve been wanting to have a chance to be able to work with him really closely. I’ve had a number of conversations with him over the years, to be able to just …

IPL Retentions 2026: CSK set to release Matheesha Pathirana | Cricket News

Chennai Super Kings have decided to release Matheesha Pathirana into the auction pool, just a year after retaining him for Rs 13 crore last year. The Indian Express understands that the franchise continues to have concern around Pathirana’s fitness and the sort of impact his slightly remodelled action has caused to his bowling and given the uncertainty, releasing him to the auction pool will give them an opportunity to strengthen the squad. There is however, no guarantee that the franchise would not go for the player at the auctions should he come at a lesser price. “Need To Keep Evolving”: CSK Bowling Coach’s Blunt Assessment Of Matheesha Pathirana

Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons has defended Matheesha Pathirana amid his underwhelming form this IPL season, saying that the opposition batters have started reading and adapting better to him. The five-time champions were eliminated from the IPL play off race on Wednesday when they lost to Punjab Kings, their eighth defeat in 10 outings. Pathirana, known for his slingy action, has lost the control he had in the previous season. Earlier, CSK head coach had said the reason for a dip in form was due to a change in action. “It’s been quite well documented that there was a bit of an action change. But he’s pretty much back to where he was and just in terms of the height of his arm on a reasonably consistent basis,” Simons said in the post-match press conference. “I’m not sure that he’s less accurate. Batters are playing him a lot better. We can certainly see a trend in the way that batters are playing against him, particularly against Mumbai the other day. “The …
