Number of patients in Bhiwandi food poisoning rises to 122

The number of persons affected due to a suspected food poisoning incident in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district has risen to 122, officials said on Saturday (June 20, 2026). Resident Deputy Collector Sandeep Mane told PTI that 107 patients have been admitted to the government-run Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital in the locality, while 15 others are undergoing treatment at other medical facilities. According to the police, several customers who had eaten food items at a local establishment on June 17 experienced stomachache and diarrhoea the following day and had to be rushed to hospitals. “The civic corporation is taking action against the establishment at its level,” Mane said. Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation PRO Shrikant Pardeshi told PTI that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has initiated action against the eatery. He said the civic body has also demolished the unauthorised portion of the establishment. A fire broke out at a private hospital on Dabri-Palam Road in south-west Delhi late Sunday night, prompting the evacuation of around 15 patients. No injuries were reported, officials said on Monday. Deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Amit Goel said the fire had been extinguished by the hospital staff and security guards the time police personnel reached the hospital. Early diagnosis and timely intervention at taluk hospitals have helped save the lives of nearly 16,000 patients with serious cardiac complications under the Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyoti scheme of the government of Karnataka. According to the Health Department, 11,78,504 people have been screened under the programme since its launch in March 2023. During this period, doctors identified 18,804 cases of ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a severe type of heart attack that requires urgent medical attention. Of these, 15,908 patients — accounting for 84.6% of the cases — were successfully treated. At least 10 patients were killed in a major fire at the Trauma Care ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha`s Cuttack early Monday morning, officials said, reported the ANI. The blaze reportedly broke out between 2:30 am and 3 am, when several critically ill patients were undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Following the incident, multiple fire engines and emergency teams rushed to the hospital to control the fire and evacuate patients from the affected area. During the rescue operation, at least eleven hospital staff members suffered burn injuries while attempting to save patients trapped in the ICU, according to the ANI. Officials said that 23 patients were safely shifted to other wards and departments as part of the emergency evacuation. According to officials, seven critically ill patients died while being shifted to other ICUs and wards, while three more later succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to ten.
