The insurer had refused the claim because the diesel car was over 10 years old, citing court rulings that prohibit diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years from being driven in the National Capital Region (NCR). A bench of president Jaswant Singh and members Neeru Agarwal and Sarvjeet Kaur also awarded Rs 25,000 compensation and Rs 11,000 litigation costs. Observing that compensation in injury cases was not merely about numbers, but also about acknowledging pain, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has enhanced the compensation awarded to a lawyer suffering from 100 per cent functional disability from Rs 52 lakh to Rs 9.16 crore. Justice Sudeepti Sharma was dealing with a plea filed by the insurance company and the lawyer against the 2008 order of a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Jalandhar, in a motor vehicle accident case. The case relates to the death of Bhupender alias Vicky, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident on June 11, 2016. His parents had challenged the tribunal’s 2018 award, arguing that their son’s income was grossly underestimated and that several legal principles on compensation were wrongly applied. The tribunal had fixed the deceased’s monthly income at Rs 9,258, treating him as an unskilled worker. The appellants claimed he was a qualified electrician from ITI Hisar, earning Rs 50,000 per month. ED facilitates Rs 311.67 crore payout for Kingfisher Airlines employees’ dues

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Mumbai Zonal Office, on Friday facilitated the restitution of Rs 311.67 crore towards long-pending workmen dues of the Kingfisher Airlines Limited (KAL). This marks a significant step in victim-centric restoration of proceeds of crime under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The restitution has been enabled pursuant to an order dated December 12, 2025, passed by the Recovery Officer of the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT)-I, Chennai.  The order by the DRT directed the release of funds realised from the sale of attached shares, which had earlier been restituted to the State Bank of India (SBI) by the ED under PMLA provisions.  As per the orders, the amount will now be transferred to the Official Liquidator for disbursement to former employees of Kingfisher Airlines. Earlier the ED had initiated its investigation based on multiple FIRs registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Kingfisher Airlines, its promoter Vijay Mallya, and associated entities for offences relating to bank fraud and criminal conspiracy—scheduled offences under the PMLA.  The probe, however, revealed …
