The Tamil Nadu Information Commission has imposed a maximum penalty of ₹25,000 on the Assistant Director, Survey and Land Records, Tiruvallur district, after a woman complained of an inordinate delay in providing information about her mother’s property. The case pertains to the petition of Yashoda of Tiruvallur, who sought details of the town survey remarks, settlement file, approval noting among other details relating to a property owned by her mother in Periyakuppam on August 19, 2023. While the information called for should have been furnished within 30 days of the petition under the Right to Information Act, 2005, the woman said she got the response only on December 24, 2025. New Delhi: The Delhi transport department is set to crack down on vehicles that do not display colour-coded stickers indicating their fuel type, officials said on Sunday. According to a public notice, non-compliance will attract penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act. The stickers are part of the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) mandate, introduced in 2012-13 and made compulsory for all vehicles by 2019. “The Motor Vehicles (High Security Registration Plates) order, 2018 for displaying colour-coded stickers/third registration mark on the windshield of the vehicle. Non-compliance with the above order will also attract the provisions of Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988,” said the public notice issued by the department on Sunday. Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act states the punishment for those who drive or cause or allow a motor vehicle to be driven in contravention of Section 39 (which relates to registration). “The vehicle owners are advised to ensure strict compliance with the aforesaid order,” the notice said further. The Maharashtra government on Monday issued a resolution mandating the use of Marathi in all government and semi-government offices across the state, news agency ANI reported. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis (PTI file) As per the directive, employees must communicate in Marathi with all visitors, except those from outside India or non-Marathi-speaking states. The resolution applies to government offices, semi-government bodies, corporations under the Maharashtra government, and other related offices. Any violation of this directive will be considered an act of official indiscipline. Citizens can file formal complaints against employees who fail to adhere to the rule with the in-charge of the respective office or department. If the complainant is unsatisfied with the action taken, they can escalate the issue to the Marathi Language Committee of the Maharashtra Legislature for further intervention, the resolution said. Washington: China has escalated its counter-offensive against the United States by intensifying its sanctions on American defence firms. In less than a week, Beijing today announced a second round of sanctions on ten US companies. The reason – sale of arms to Taiwan. With this, China has, in total, sanctioned or penalised 45 US entities – 17 firms and 28 entities – over varying degrees of penalties. While 17 firms have been sanctioned, 28 others have been penalised by adding them to an export ban list. Among those sanctioned today are some of the biggest defence manufacturers globally – subsidiaries of Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and General Dynamics. In a statement issued by China’s Ministry of Commerce, all ten US firms have been added to Beijing’s “Unreliable entities list” for “participating in selling of arms to Taiwan”. It further stated that these companies will henceforth “be prohibited from all import and export activities” in the country. Neither will they be allowed to invest in China. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed penalties on three prominent coaching institutes for allegedly advertising misleading claims about the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam (CSE) results for 2022 and 2023. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution reported on Thursday that Vajirao & Reddy Institute and StudyIQ IAS were each fined Rs 7 lakh. Meanwhile, Edge IAS faced a penalty of Rs 1 lakh for similar offences. In addition to the financial penalties, the CCPA has ordered the institutes to cease publishing these misleading advertisements immediately. These actions are taken to protect and promote the rights of consumers and to ensure that no false or misleading advertisements are made for any goods or services that contravene the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The CCPA, led by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare and Commissioner Anupam Mishra, directed the institutes to cease misleading advertisements immediately, stating consumer rights and adherence to the Consumer Protection …
