University and college teachers from across Punjab staged a protest at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Monday, demanding release of 7th pay commission arrears, grant of 60% dearness allowance (DA) and resolution of long-pending pay and pension-related issues. The protesting teachers demanded the grant of 60% DA, release of arrears under the 7th pay commission with effect from January 1, 2016, and rectification of pay anomalies. They also sought fixation of basic pay at ₹57,700 instead of ₹15,600 during the probation period and restoration of full pay benefits. A bench of Justices Saral Srivastava and Garima Prashad was hearing a plea filed by an acid attack survivor seeking enhanced compensation and rehabilitation support. The court lamented that the petitioner suffered the acid attack in 2011 and, despite the passage of nearly 15 years, no meaningful framework for her economic rehabilitation, livelihood support or financial security was produced before it. “The obligation of the State must extend towards ensuring recurring monetary assistance, employment opportunities, social security measures and meaningful economic rehabilitation enabling such survivors to live with dignity guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India,” the court noted in its order dated May 25. The Union government said on Wednesday that the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing total gross enrolments of nine crore subscribers. Gross enrolments during the Financial Year 2025–26 crossed 1.35 crore subscribers, marking the highest-ever enrolments recorded in a single financial year since the inception of the scheme, according to a Finance Ministry statement. Launched on May 9, 2015, with the vision of establishing a universal social security system for all Indians, APY is a flagship social security scheme of the Union government, administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). According to the Ministry, APY is designed to provide a `Sampurna Suraksha Kavach` (Complete Security Shield) by ensuring benefits like a guaranteed monthly pension ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for subscribers after attaining 60 years of age. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) launched a new monthly pension scheme for former women cricketers on Thursday. To be eligible for the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s pension, the player must have represented the state in national championships and must be at least 55 years of age as of 1 April, 2026. Those who receive pension under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) won’t be eligible. Those who are selected will receive Rs 15,000 monthly from the KSCA.
