BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia says KSCA demanded tickets “far beyond” permitted quota

2 min readUpdated: May 8, 2026 10:19 PM IST The IPL 2026 final will be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31. When the BCCI announced the playoffs schedule earlier, it offered only a brief explanation for dropping Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium — home of defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru — as the final venue. “Owing to certain requirements from the local association and authorities that were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue has been shifted and reassigned,” the board’s statement read. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has now told Sportstar what those requirements were. “As per IPL protocol, we are required to provide only 15 per cent of the total seating capacity as complimentary tickets to the host association. This constitutes the standard protocol; all host state associations receive a 15 per cent allocation of their total capacity in the form of complimentary tickets,” he said. The Karnataka State Cricket Association, he claimed, sought considerably more. “That was much beyond the allocated 15 per cent.” “We wrote …

US Banks Permitted to Offer Crypto Custody and Management Services, OCC Confirms

US Banks Permitted to Offer Crypto Custody and Management Services, OCC Confirms

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has allowed banks in the US to offer services like crypto custody and management to their customers. The move adds to the list of steps that US President Donald Trump’s government has taken recently to replace the crypto-related policies introduced by the previous administration. Acting Comptroller Rodney Hood published a letter on Wednesday, providing clarity for national banks and federal savings associations under the OCC. Banks’ engagement with cryptocurrencies was previously discouraged owing to the volatility and risks associated with the sector. However, the US President’s plan to make the US the “crypto capital of the world” has led to efforts to encourage engagement with digital assets, as one of the top priorities of the government. US Banks Can Now Help Customers Buy and Sell Crypto Assets The OCC said customers of US national banks and federal savings associations can now access crypto custody services from their lenders in the US. At the customers’ discretion, banks can also help them buy and sell crypto assets. Eligible …

When Mysuru maharaja permitted British engineer to shoot leopard near Chamundi Hills

A photograph from the collection of the British engineer’s family shows the leopard that had been shot by him. The British engineer not only shot the leopard, but also took its skin as a trophy back home.  | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT The conflict between humans and leopards appears to have existed even during the days of the erstwhile maharajas of Mysuru. A British engineer, who was involved in the installation of a power plant for lighting the Mysuru palace when it was being built, had been permitted by the then maharaja of Mysore to shoot one of the leopards that was roaming near the foot of Chamundi Hills. A letter issued by the Assistant Private Secretary to the maharaja of Mysore on June 27, 1908, had permitted the British engineer, Fredrick William Willis, to shoot ‘one of the panthers’ that had been sighted near the foot of Chamundi Hills, according to a copy of the letter shared by his grandson Fred Willis, who is presently touring Mysuru with his wife Gill Willis. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Allegedly Permitted Llama AI Models’ Training on Copyrighted Materials

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Allegedly Permitted Llama AI Models’ Training on Copyrighted Materials

Meta is facing a copyright lawsuit over allegedly using copyrighted works to train its artificial intelligence (AI) models. The lawsuit was filed by multiple complainants that also include several bestselling authors. The primary allegation against the tech giant is that it used pirated e-books and articles to train the older versions of its Llama AI models, violating copyright laws. Additionally, the filings also accuse company CEO Mark Zuckerberg of allowing its Llama AI team to torrent a sketchy link aggregator to access the copyrighted materials. The information comes from two separate documents filed with the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday. The documents, from complainants such as authors Sarah Silverman and Ta-Nehisi Coates, highlight Meta’s testimony given in late 2024 where it was discovered that Zuckerberg permitted the usage of a dataset called LibGen to train its Llama AI models. Notably, LibGen (short for Library Genesis) is a file-sharing platform that offers free access to academic and general-interest content. Many consider it a pirate library as it gives access to …

Google’s Removal of Apps From Play Store in India ‘Cannot Be Permitted’: IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Google’s decision to remove some apps in India from its app store “cannot be permitted”, Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday, amid an ongoing dispute over service fee payments to the US firm. Google on Friday removed from its Play Store many Indian apps, including Matrimony.com’s popular Bharat Matrimony and job search app Naukri, saying the companies were not abiding by its in-app payment guidelines. Vaishnaw said he has held talks with Google and will meet the startups, which needed protection in India. “This cannot be permitted. This kind of de-listing cannot be permitted,” he said in a statement. Google declined to comment. The removal has sparked criticism from many startups who have for years protested and legally challenged many of the US giant’s practices, including its in-app fee. Google says the fees help develop and promote the Android and Play Store ecosystem. The dispute centers on efforts by some Indian startups to stop Google from imposing a fee of 11 percent-26 percent on in-app payments, after the country’s antitrust authorities ordered it …

Kilambakkam bus stand row: A-G says two more pick up and drop points at Porur and Surapet can be permitted

Advocate General (A-G) P.S. Raman on Wednesday informed the Madras High Court that private buses plying between Chennai and the southern districts could be temporarily allowed to pick up and drop passengers off at Porur and Surapet, and drop them off at Perungalathur until they shift their operations completely to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) at Kilambakkam near Vandalur. The submission was made before Justice R.N. Manjula who was seized of a batch of writ petitions filed by private bus operators complaining about the Transport Commissioner’s insistence that all south-bound buses be operated only from KCBT and not from the Combined Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu, as it had been happening for the last two decades. Pursuant to the filing of the case, the judge had directed the bus operators and government authorities last week to hold talks to arrive at an amicable solution. When she sought to know the outcome of the talks, Senior Counsel Vijay Narayan, representing a couple of petitioners, said that the talks were held on February 3, but …
