Delhi HC orders takedown of pornographic, deepfake, unauthorised content using Naga Chaitanya’s persona

Actor Naga Chaitanya recently approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights. As per the latest update from news agency ANI on Monday, the Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to the Telugu film actor against the unauthorised use of his name, image, voice, likeness and other personality attributes on pornographic websites, online merchandise platforms and YouTube channels. What has the Court directed The Court directed multiple defendants to remove the impugned content and comply with its directions within 24 hours of receiving the order. Justice Jyoti Singh passed the order while hearing a commercial suit filed by the actor seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights against websites allegedly hosting pornographic content, AI-generated deepfakes, defamatory material and unauthorised merchandise exploiting his identity. Appearing for the plaintiff, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar was assisted by Advocates Somdev Tiwari, Akashdeep Gupta, Siddarth C., Abhishek Nair and Vansh Srivastav. Qatar has reported “significant damage” after Iranian missile strikes hit the Ras Laffan industrial city, the country’s primary gas hub. In a statement issued Wednesday, Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned what it called a blatant Iranian assault on Ras Laffan Industrial City, saying the attack sparked fires that severely affected the facility. Qatar also expelled all Iranian attaches at the embassies. The ministry also denounced Iranian strikes on energy sites in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, describing the incidents as grave breaches of international law and a serious risk to global energy stability. Calling the actions “brutal aggressions”, Doha said Tehran had crossed “all red lines” and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation to restore regional and international security. Actor Shatrughan Sinha, whose iconic dialogue ‘khamosh’ is still a fan favourite after decades, has been granted relief on his personality rights. As per the latest update on the news agency ANI, the Bombay High Court has said that the signature ‘khamosh dialogue is “exclusively associated” with his persona. It has also prohibited the use of his name, images and other personal attributes to create online content without his consent. Bombay HC has ruled in favour of actor Shatrughan Sinha in protection of his personality rights. (ANI) What did Bombay HC decide? “It needs no reinforcement that the expression “Khamosh” which was delivered by the Plaintiff (Sinha) in his unique and distinct style in one of his films is associated exclusively with the Plaintiff’s persona,” the HC said.
