Michael Vaughan challenges ECB over Pakistan players not being picked by Indian-owned franchises in The Hundred: ‘What message does that send about our game?’ | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 21, 2026 12:25 PM IST Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to act swiftly on reports that Indian-owned Hundred franchises won’t pick Pakistan players, adding that they should not allow this to happen, as it would contradict the tournament’s ethos of inclusivity. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO The 51-year-old was also critical of the ECB’s statement in response to the reports, stating that the real test would come on March 11-12, when the auctions would be held. “The Hundred was set up to be an inclusive competition designed to appeal to a different audience, which is why the England and Wales Cricket Board has to act quickly if reports are true that new Indian owners will not select Pakistani players”. “I am a huge fan of the Hundred, but it has to appeal to all supporters for it to have any credibility. This has the potential to turn away the large Pakistan population that lives in England and loves cricket. What message does that send …

During a recent chat with Seth Meyers, Nick talked about his new album ‘Sunday Best’. During the chat, he recalled the early days of performing with his brothers, when the three of them could hardly find a venue to play. Aakash Chopra on Tilak Varma’s replacement for IND vs NZ T20I series: ‘Who can it be? Shreyas Iyer. ‘Sarpanch’ sahab should be picked automatically’ | Cricket News

Indian cricketer Tilak Varma has suffered abdomen injury ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand. Earlier this publication reported that Tilak was in Rajkot playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy when he felt a pain in the abdomen after breakfast on Wednesday morning, and it is unlikely that Shubman Gill, India’s Test and ODI captain, would be considered. Former Indian cricketer suggested that with Tilak missing the first three T20Is, it opens the door to bringing in Shreyas Iyer in the side. “Who can it be? Shreyas Iyer. ‘Sarpanch’ sahab should be picked automatically. He is already playing well and scored in the Vijay Hazare Trophy too. Even when Iyer was not picked in the Asia Cup, it felt slightly unfair, but it was understandable. But there is an opportunity for a middle-order role here. He is also an experienced player and set the IPL on fire. He fits the bill, and Shreyas Iyer gets my vote,” Chopra said on his Twitter account. gt; Tilak Verma is injured and could even miss out on the …

The disabled Adivasi who picked up a bow: Story of Jhongo Pahan, from shy child to silver medalist | Sport-others News

Jhongo Pahan (17) comes from the land of the well-known Adivasi scholar and hockey champion Jaipal Singh Munda, but it’s a different sport where he’s winning laurels. The teenager, who lives deep inside the forests in Khunti district’s Silda village, has claimed a silver medal in the 50-metre archery at the Asian Youth Para Games 2025, held in Dubai earlier this month. According to his parents, Jhongo was born with paraparesis, because of which he couldn’t walk. Family members describe him as an introverted, underconfident boy who avoided socialising because of the “natural discrimination” he faced because he would crawl to get around. Jhongo’s journey as an athlete began relatively late — just two years ago, in fact. His coaches, Md Danish Ansari and Ashish Kumar, identified his potential during their voluntary initiative to find athletes from marginalised communities and train them in archery. “Our objective was to identify those who are marginalised within the marginalised and train them through archery. Hockey has gained popularity because of Adivasis, but one must not forget that archery …

Father earned Rs 12000 as teacher; son Prashant Veer hopes to be perfect Dhoni student, picked for Rs 14.2 crore by CSK | Cricket News

A son of ‘Shiksha Mitr’ (Primary Teacher) who earned around Rs 12,000 per month, 20-year-old Prashant Veer was picked for Rs 14.20 crore by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League’s mini-auction on Tuesday. Veer wasn’t expecting too much, and like any uncapped player, he hoped someone in the auction room would merely raise the paddle for him. “I was just hoping that someone would raise their paddle, it took me some time to process that I have gone to CSK for 14 crores. Sapna lag raha tha sab, I told Rinku (Singh) bhai ke pinch karo ek baar. My family has not seen so much money in their life, this will change things for good. What I will do with the money, yeh sochney ka kaam gharwalon ka hai, mera nahi,” he told The Indian Express. (It felt like a dream to be picked by CSK. I told Rinku to pinch me. My family will decide what to do with the money. God heard my prayers.) Divine intervention or not, CSK needed to …

Global Chess League 2025: When D Gukesh picked a fight on the board that ‘Vishy sir’ won | Chess News

What do chess players do when they want to pick a fight over the board? If they’re playing with black pieces, they’re likely to play the Sicilian opening, a razor-sharp option which sends a signal to the opponent that you’re itching for a battle over the 64 squares. That’s exactly what world champion D Gukesh did when he faced off against his idol and mentor Viswanathan Anand in a Global Chess League clash on Tuesday. Anand might be semi-retired, but he hasn’t lost his appetite for a good fight and forced his protege to resign in 45 moves as his team Ganges Grandmasters defeated the teenage world champion’s PBG Alaskan Knights 12-3. The Sicilian Defence, the weapon of choice for the sport’s most ferocious fighters like Garry Kasparov and Bobby Fischer, starts off by responding to white’s 1.e4 with a push of the black’s c pawn to c5 rather than the more preferred response with the e or d pawns. The idea behind the Sicilian is to break the symmetry in the centre and destabilise …

‘We laughed at age profile of Aus cricket….England would never have picked Weatherald at 31, but he looked so ready’

Michael Vaughan who won the most memorable Ashes series in 2005 says they might’ve laughed at age profile of Australian squad at the outset of the 2025 series. But the Aussie system has delivered with its selections, rewarding Grade cricket performances. Writing for The Telegraph, Vaughan said England needed to reconsider how they picked teams, saying, “Right now, England are the opposite of Australia.” Admitting that English cricket fraternity had joked about Australia’s older age profile at the outset, he said they had been proven wrong. “We had a laugh at the age profile of Australia’s team, and there are some cracks that England have failed to open up. But the Australian system has always been about earning the right,” Vaughan wrote. High store was set on performances in the Sheffield Shield, he reminded. “To get in the state team, you need to perform in grade cricket on a Saturday. The whole system is connected in a way ours just is not, top to bottom. Sam Konstas was an outlier last year, almost an England-style …
