A 35-year-old motorcycle rider was killed and his pillion rider was seriously injured after their bike collided with a police van in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said on Sunday, reported the PTI. According to officials, the police vehicle was carrying Suresh Kute and his wife Archana Kute, the main accused in the Dnyanradha Multi-State Cooperative Society scam. The van was travelling from Kaij to Beed at the time of the accident, as per the PTI. Suresh Kute and his wife Archana Kute, arrested last year in an alleged Rs 3,500 crore fraud in Beed. They were being brought to Beed from Ambajogai under police custody after a court hearing when the van collided with a motorcycle, leaving its rider critically injured, a police official said. Archana Kute, who was inside the police vehicle, also sustained injuries. Her condition was reported to be stable, the official said. A 42-year-old bike taxi driver was killed, and the pillion rider sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck in South Delhi`s Mehrauli area on Sunday, an official said. According to the police, a PCR call was received at the Mehrauli Police Station regarding the accident and upon reaching the spot, officers found a motorcycle trapped under a truck and a man lying on the road. The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Chattarpur in Delhi. “He was travelling with a pillion rider when their motorcycle collided with a truck near Mehrauli-Badarpur Road,” said the police officer. 40% Pillion Rider Accident Victims Didn’t Use Helmets: AIIMS Study

Most of the road accident victims were in the age group of 20 to 40 years. New Delhi: Forty per cent of pillion riders on two-wheelers in Delhi did not use helmets leading to head injuries, according to data collected in 2022 at the AIIMS Trauma Centre here. However, the data showed that nearly 85 per cent of the riders of two-wheelers used helmets while the rest did not wear protective gear leading to head injuries, which resulted in mortality or morbidity, said AIIMS Trauma Centre chief Dr Kamran Farooque. He referred to data collected at the centre between January 21 to December 22. He further informed that according to the data, almost 82 per cent of the patients who were brought dead to the hospital in 2022 had met with road accidents. Dr Farooque further stated that the hospital received 53,541 trauma patients in 2022, out of which around 25 per cent were road accident victims.
