The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday questioned 66 people in Pune district after they were allegedly found to have been in contact with Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti and his associates, reported the PTI. According to the ATS, the operation began at 7 am and was carried out with the assistance of Pune City Police, Pune Rural Police and Pimpri Chinchwad Police. The ATS said it suspects that Bhatti used social media platforms to attempt to radicalise Indian youths and encourage them to take part in anti-national activities. Bhatti, along with his associates Abid Jatt alias Abid Chhal, Ajmal Gujar, Hammad Memon, Rana Hunain and Ashraf Bashir Alam, allegedly used social media platforms to establish contact with Indian youths, according to the ATS. Investigators alleged that Bhatti and his associates established contact with young people in India through platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp, as per the PTI. In a major action against illegal and potentially dangerous LPG gas refilling activities, the Property Crime Cell of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police on Thursday busted an unauthorised gas refilling racket operating in the Chakan market area, seizing 251 LPG cylinders, refilling equipment, and a vehicle collectively worth Rs 9.71 lakh. Caught in act Police said they received information about the illegal action at Chakan Market in Khed taluka. Following the information, a police team raided the premises and caught the accused red-handed. PUNE: In a significant action against organised cybercrime, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police on Tuesday invoked the stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against a nine-member gang allegedly involved in multiple cyber fraud cases. Police invoke MCOCA in cybercrime case; book 9-member gang for ₹11 crore fraud According to police officials, this is the first time that MCOCA has been applied in a cybercrime case in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The action was taken under the guidance of police commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey. The case came to light after a senior citizen was duped of over ₹11 crore through a fake online trading application. A case was registered at the cyber police station on February 20, 2026, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. During the probe, police found that the defrauded amount was routed through multiple bank accounts. Authorities have so far managed to freeze ₹2.65 crore. However, two days later, she died by suicide at her residence in Chinchwad on April 11, police said. The victim’s father registered the FIR at MIDC Bhosari police station. Based on details mentioned by the victim in her suicide note, police arrested her guide Dr A Benniamin, under sections Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 74 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), on April 12. Cops arrested three persons from a car and seized two country made pistols and seven live cartridges from their possession on Thursday following an incident where the trio opened fire at Pimpri Chinchwad police personnel near Somatane toll post in the early hours of the day. An investigation has revealed that a Bangladeshi woman, now arrested by the Pimpri Chinchwad police for illegally residing in India, was deported to her country just three months ago by the Mumbai Police. Police said that even after her deportation, the woman, identified as Fatima Amjad Akhtar (35), came back to India last month by illegally crossing the international border between India and Bangladesh at West Bengal.
