Cong opposes PMPML bus purchase, threatens legal challenge

Congress leader and standing committee member Prashant Jagtap has opposed the proposed purchase of 1,000 buses for the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), citing inflated costs, and warned that he would take the matter to court. The standing committee maintained that the decision had already been taken at the board level, and the committee’s role was limited to releasing the funds. (REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO) The proposal, which was first cleared by the PMPML board of directors on Thursday, subsequently came before the standing committee for fund approval. Jagtap questioned the rationale behind procuring buses fitted with doors on both sides — a design suited exclusively for bus rapid transit system (BRTS) routes — at a time when the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is actively dismantling existing BRTS corridors with no stated plans for expansion. “If PMC is demolishing the BRTS and has no future plans for extending it, why are PMC and PMPML pushing for the purchase of dual-door buses that are only suitable for BRTS routes?” he asked. Jagtap said the dual-door configuration not …

With no dedicated stop inside Pune airport, feeder bus services not profitable: PMPML | Pune News

As Aeromall and Pune Airport authorities are yet to provide space within the airport premises for feeder bus services, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has claimed the service to the nearest Metro station is not yielding profits due to the bus stop being located outside the airport on the main road. Aeromall Multi-level Parking is the designated parking space for air passengers and is connected to the airport via a bridge. PMPML, in collaboration with Maha Metro, introduced the service last year responding to the passengers’ demand to start a feeder service from Ramwadi Metro Station to the airport. However, the passengers have expressed dissatisfaction, citing inconvenience, as they are forced to walk around 300-400 metres to reach the airport gate. Story continues below this ad Nitin Narvekar, joint managing director of PMPML, stated that the buses remain largely empty. “PMPML has requested a dedicated pick-up and drop-off point inside the airport. Due to certain challenges, neither the airport authorities nor Aeromall have granted permission. It has been almost three months since we raised …
