A planned Pune citizens’ protest titled ‘Ram Nadi Satyagraha’— in which residents were set to stand inside Ramnadi at the point where nearly 70 per cent of the river’s sewage is discharged — was called off after the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) initiated on-ground work. The protest, scheduled for Friday, November 28, was organised in response to what residents described as long-standing administrative negligence. Despite repeated complaints, site inspections, and clear directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Divisional Commissioner, untreated sewage has continued to flow unabated into Ramnadi. Citizens from Bhugaon, Bhukum, and Bavdhan said they were left with “no option but peaceful civil resistance.” Citizens had planned `Ram Nadi Satyagraha Dharna’ at the Bavdhan–Bhugaon bridge. The Maharashtra government, through the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), has allocated Rs 4,503 crore for the financial year 2025-26 to improve the city’s infrastructure, urban mobility, and connectivity issues. Key decisions regarding road connectivity to the new greenfield airport at Purandar, the Twin Tunnel project, and CNG buses for Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) were taken during a PMRDA review meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, held in Mumbai on February 12. The government has sanctioned Rs 636.84 crore for chalking out the road connectivity, as part of finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new airport by September and making it operational by 2029. A RUSTED shell was found during excavation work for the construction of the side wall of a nullah in Maan area near Hinjewadi on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) secured the shell and defence authorities have been informed for deciding further course of action. Officials from Hinjewadi police station said the shell was found during the excavation work undertaken by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) for the construction of a nullah wall near the Maan Mahalunge Road around 2.30pm. Sonyabapu Deshmukh, inspector at Hinjewadi police station, said, “Prima facie, it is a rusted shell. It is possibly of pre-Independence era and was probably misfired from a gun at the time. Workers on the construction site found it and informed the police. We called in the BDDS and they have moved it to a safe space. We have informed the defence authorities.
