A man was arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter multiple times in a village in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, police said on Saturday. Last year, a total of 667 cases related to crimes against women were lodged in Tripura. (Representative Image/iStock) The 42-year-old accused was charged under section 06 of the Protection of Child from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and section 64(f)(m)/65(1)351 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at a local police station on Friday based on a complaint filed by a relative of the rape-survivor. Police said the minor rape-survivor told her complainant on May 19 that her stepfather had allegedly raped her multiple times and threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident. The complainant filed a complaint at the police station the same day, after which police arrested the accused. Last year, a total of 667 cases related to crimes against women were lodged in Tripura, and 426 persons were arrested. Archery Coach Kuldeep Vedwan sentenced to five years in prison in POCSO Case

A Fast Track Special Court in Sonipat has sentenced national-level archery coach Kuldeep Vedwan to five years of rigorous imprisonment in a sexual harassment case involving a minor female archer. The court convicted Vedwan under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and also imposed a fine of ₹15,000. Along with the five-year sentence under Section 10 of the Act, the court awarded an additional three-year sentence under Section 12. Both sentences will run concurrently. The case stemmed from an incident reported during Youth Championship trials held at a Sports Authority of India centre in Sonipat in April 2023.
