On a knife edge – With Manchester City and Arsenal level on points and goal difference, the last five matches filled with intrigue and possibility

4 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Apr 23, 2026 08:03 PM IST Two teams, five games, 15 points — the math looks simple for Manchester City and Arsenal, level on points and goal difference after 33 matches in the English Premier League title race. It is a classic who-blinks-first narrative, intrigued by the possibility that neither might flinch yet see the title slip through the fingers. Weave in pressure, history, calendar and form, and the climax looks mouthwatering. City on top The Burnley scrape shot Manchester City to the top of the pile by virtue of the three goals they have netted more than Arsenal. It is one of the five differentials that decide the champion if teams are locked on the same number of points and goal difference at the end of the season. So rare is the possibility that there has been only one precedent of goals scored determining the winner in the English top division’s 136-year-old existence. It should please Arsenal, as they pipped Liverpool to the title in 1988/89 by virtue of having …

Bastar close to being considered Naxal-free, possibility of revival extremely remote: IGP

Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj  | Photo Credit: File Photo Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj on Monday said Bastar today stands “very close to being considered Naxal-free” and the likelihood of a large-scale revival of the Maoist movement appears “extremely remote”. The statement came on the eve of the Centre’s deadline to eliminate Maoism in the country. Mr. Sundarraj said Bastar has historically been considered the strategic nucleus of the Maoist movement. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma recently said “96% of Bastar is free from Maoism and only 30 to 40 active cadres remain”. There has been an escalation in anti-Naxal operations in Bastar since January 2024, resulting in 500 Maoist cadres being killed as of March 29 this year. They included top cadres such as the secretary general of the CPI (Maoist), Basavaraju, who was killed in May last year. “Of the 24 individuals who constituted the central committee and the politburo in 2024, only one politburo member remains active. Another senior leader, Ganapathy, has remained inactive …

When Govinda spoke about the possibility of ‘getting involved again’: ‘Sunita should be prepared’ | Bollywood News

Actor Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, have recently been in the news due to rumours surrounding their relationship. Last year, the couple was rumoured to be heading for a divorce, and in January this year, Sunita alleged that Govinda was involved with a newcomer. While their marriage appears to be going through a rough patch, Govinda’s relationship with Sunita has not always been smooth. In an old interview with Stardust magazine, Govinda had confessed to being in love with Neelam Kothari and revealed that he had even broken off his engagement to Sunita for her. Additionally, Govinda once mentioned in an interview that his horoscope predicts two marriages, adding that he might get involved with someone again. ‘Sunita said something about Neelam, and I broke off my engagement with her’ At one point, Govinda’s feelings for Neelam Kothari were so intense that he struggled to see her paired opposite another actor on screen. More significantly, he even jeopardised his engagement to Sunita after she made a remark about Neelam during an argument. Recalling the …

Coaching reforms: Centre panel exploring possibility of conducting entrance exams at class 11 level

Coaching reforms: Centre panel exploring possibility of conducting entrance exams at class 11 level

A Centre-appointed panel for suggesting reforms in entrance exams and reducing dependency on coaching centres is exploring the possibility of holding crucial entrance exams in class 11 or aligning the grade’s exams with their difficulty level, according to officials. The panel is analysing data to study if the difficulty level of entrance exams is in sync with the difficulty level of Class 12 curriculum, which is the basis of these exams. Last year, the Ministry of Education set up a nine-member panel to examine issues related to coaching, the emergence of ‘dummy schools’ and the effectiveness and fairness of entrance examinations. The panel, headed by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, will suggest measures to reduce the dependency of students on coaching centres for transition to higher education. “In its recent meeting, the stakeholders suggested that if few of the entrances can be conducted at Class 11 level or at least the exams for this class be in the same MCQ format as that of the entrance exams. The possibility is being studied,” a source said. …

‘I don’t live thinking I am or was a tennis player’: Rafael Nadal rules out any possibility of comeback, ‘That chapter is closed’ | Tennis News

Rafael Nadal may have been among the top 10 highest ranked men’s tennis players in the world less than two years ago but the Spanish great has reiterated that he has very much adjusted to retired life, so much that a return to the sport as a player is not something that even crosses his mind. The 39-year-old ended his illustrious playing career on November 19, 2024 in the Davis Cup Finals. “I don’t live thinking that I am or was a tennis player. That chapter is closed. Obviously, I am here because of that, not because I did something else. That’s clear, so it will always be there in the memory. But I don’t live my day-to-day life thinking about tennis, beyond specific moments when I feel like watching something or, of course, at the Academy, where I’m closer to it on a daily basis, but from a completely different perspective,” Nadal is quoted as saying by AS. The 22-time Grand Slam winner was known for meticulously sticking to routine and his discipline throughout …

Rafael Nadal on the possibility of becoming Spain’s Davis Cup captain in future: ‘Why not?’

22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has opened up about the possibility of becoming Spain’s non-playing captain in the Davis Cup in future. The 39-year-old, however, was quick to admit that it was too soon for him to be thinking along those lines since he had retired from the sport just over a year ago. Nadal retired from tennis after representing Spain in the Davis Cup finals against the Netherlands in Malaga last year, a tie which the hosts lost 1-2 to bow out in the quarter-final stage. “Being Davis Cup captain someday? Why not? I might enjoy it, or not. I’ve just retired. It’s far too early to be thinking about that. I respect life’s processes and adaptation. Right now, it’s not the time to think about it,” Nadal told AS in an interview. The Spaniard, however, ruled out the possibility of taking up professional coaching as it would require him to travel right through the year – something which he was not comfortable doing at this stage of his life. “I’ve always had …
