Mamata now turning to parties she once targeted, says Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday lashed out at Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, highlighting that she was demanding support from those very parties whom she had tried to destroy earlier. Speaking to ANI, Chowdhury stated that the current post-poll violence in the State was the consequence of Mamata Banerjee`s rule. “All the violence in Bengal during Mamata Banerjee`s rule will now have consequences. She tried hard to destroy Congress and secular spaces in Bengal, and today she herself is facing punishment, seeking support because her strength has faded. First, she should accept Rahul Gandhi as the leader of the INDIA alliance, and only then will we consider anything,” he said. Mamata Banerjee had yesterday alleged being denied permission to celebrate Rabindra Jayanti celebrations in Kolkata and also urged all “like-minded parties” to stop BJP. “Permission was sought for Rabindra Jayanti celebrations at three places. It was denied. So, I decided to continue it here at my residence. They asked all decorators not to provide any help…I appeal to all like-minded parties to …

BJP alleges complete law and order collapse after murder of Suvendu Adhikari’s close aide

The BJP on Thursday termed the murder of the close aide of its leader Suvendu Adhikari a proof of the “complete collapse” of law and order in West Bengal, ruled by the TMC for 15 years. It accused the Mamata Banerjee-led party of fostering “lawlessness” after losing power in the recently concluded assembly polls. With the high-profile murder taking place just a couple of days ahead of the swearing-in of the first BJP government in the state, all parties condemned the incident, while the Trinamool Congress rejected the charge and accused the saffron party of attempting to politicise the incident. The Supreme Court on Friday admonished the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for making sweeping allegations against the judiciary of West Bengal, as it refused to entertain the agency’s plea seeking the transfer of 45 post-poll violence cases outside the state in view of a slew of “scandalous” statements in the CBI’s petition. The bench rejected the CBI’s blanket allegations of bias and hostility. (HT file photo) Reprimanding CBI for “tarnishing” the image of the entire West Bengal judiciary, a bench of justices AS Oka and Pankaj Mithal took strong exception to the CBI’s allegations against the state judiciary, characterising them as serious and unfounded aspersions against the judiciary. “There’s a blanket averment in your petition that judges are wrongly granting bail. You are branding all courts as hostile and biased. These are aspersions against the judges there. It cannot be accepted,” the bench told additional solicitor general SV Raju, who represented CBI in the matter.
