New Delhi, India has fully protected sensitive agricultural and dairy products such as maize, wheat, rice, soya, poultry, milk, cheese, ethanol , tobacco, certain vegetables and meat, as no duty concessions have been granted to the US on these goods under the trade agreement. Director of Animal Husbandry, Government of Andhra Pradesh, T. Damdoar Naidu, on Wednesday issued an advisory to the poultry farmers in light of avian influenza (bird flu) outbreak. Dr. Damodar Naidu said the poultry farmers were advised to set up footbaths at the entrances of poultry sheds using 0.01% potassium permanganate, sprinkle 2% sodium hypochlorite, bleaching powder, or lime around the poultry sheds, and ensure personal hygiene of the staff working in the sheds. “Wash hands and feet thoroughly with Dettol, or soap before entering and after leaving the sheds,” he said. Dr. Damodar Naidu further said it was necessary to avoid introducing new chicken into the sheds. “Do not allow people, vehicles, feed, or equipment from other farms to enter the sheds. If a chicken dies, immediately remove the litter, remaining feed, and water, and place them in plastic bags, and either burn or bury them far away. Disinfect trucks, egg trays, and cages with 2% sodium hypochlorite or 1% sodium hydroxide. Clean water troughs and feed containers regularly with 1% sodium hydroxide,” he …

In a collaborative effort, Wildlife SOS and the Maharashtra Forest Department successfully rescued an approximately 4-year-old female leopard from a poultry farm in Dholwad village of Junnar in Maharashtra, the officials said. They said that the poultry farm workers in Dholwad village made a startling discovery on Thursday early morning— a leopard had been trapped inside a small duck enclosure. The feline had already devoured two ducks before it was spotted by the villagers. Recognising the delicate nature of the situation, they swiftly informed the Maharashtra Forest Department, who in turn immediately contacted Wildlife SOS for assistance. Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS said, “As essential leopard habitats become increasingly fragmented, these big cats resort to domestic cattle and poultry for nourishment. The Jharkhand government on Wednesday sounded an alert after bird flu cases were reported in a poultry farm in state capital Ranchi, an official said. As many as 920 birds, including 770 ducks, were culled at the Ram Krishna Ashram-run poultry farm – Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra – in Morabadi, the official told PTI. A total of 4,300 eggs were also destroyed, he said.
