Mumbai man explains how a common restaurant practice quietly pushes diners to spend more: ‘Decision is made for you’

A Mumbai-based entrepreneur has sparked a discussion online after explaining how a common restaurant practice can lead people to spend money without actively choosing to. The post has left users divided over whether the practice is problematic or simply part of doing business. (Unsplash/Representational image ) Taking to X, Chanakya Shah, co-founder of hydration supplement brand UP&RUN, pointed out how many restaurants place a bottle of water on the table even before customers place an order. He said that what was once an ₹15 mineral water bottle is now often replaced with ₹60 options or premium labels like Vedica and Himalayan. In his post, Shah argued that this subtle placement acts as a default, nudging customers into spending more. “When something is already placed in front of you, it feels like the default choice. Saying no suddenly requires effort. Asking for a cheaper option feels awkward, so people just go with what’s already there. Customers end up spending more without ever actively choosing to,” he wrote. Shah suggested that a more transparent approach would be …

Why pre-season practice with Yuvraj Singh could be the ‘Midas touch’ for Rishabh Pant

2 min readUpdated: Mar 23, 2026 12:14 AM IST In a bid to make up for lost time and opportunities in white-ball cricket, Rishabh Pant has seemingly undergone a rapid transformation in his physique and cricket over the last few months. Pant, who has been overlooked from India’s T20I squad over the last two years and demoted to the back-up wicket-keeper in ODI cricket, is gearing up for a pivotal IPL 2026 season with the Lucknow Super Giants. The LSG captain was signed at Rs 27.50 crore last year, but his season ended with middling figures, compounded by the captaincy tag that had appeared to bog him down. Before arriving in Chennai — where Lucknow have set up their pre-season base at former India bowling coach Bharat Arun’s academy, Coaching Beyond — Pant spent five days in Mumbai working with Yuvraj Singh, the Indian Express had reported last week. The sessions with Yuvraj, who has played a key role in the development of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, were focused on the basics: retaining shape, …

4 min readNew DelhiMar 3, 2026 12:00 AM IST It’s not often that celebrities strip away the glitter and speak with raw honesty. But when Priyanka Chopra entered an interview room one weary morning—running on four cups of coffee and no sleep—she offered a perspective not commonly found in successful people. “Main koshish karti hoon ki jo main hoon, usi tarah se main room ko enter karoon. Main kal soyi hi nahin. Raat ko chaar coffee pee chuki hoon. Lekin mera kaam hai tumse ye interview karna. Aur main tumhein 100% doongi kyunki ye tumhara mauka hai. Kyunki main tired hoon, I wouldn’t take that away from you.” (Translation: I try to enter the room, as per my feelings. Man, I didn’t even sleep last night. I’ve already had four coffees. But my job is to do this interview with you. And I will give you 100%, because this is your chance. Just because I’m tired, I wouldn’t take that away from you.) Despite her exhaustion, Priyanka reminded us that kindness, respect, and humility aren’t …

RSS doesn’t practice Hindutva politics, believes in nation building: Mohan Bhagwat| India News

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has said that the Sangh does not practice Hindutva politics, rather it believes in building a strong society and nation through individual development. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said women are completely independent and their participation in governance should be 50 per cent, and not limited to 33 per cent. (HT_PRINT) “The Sangh’s objective is individual development because only strong individuals can build a strong society and nation,” Bhagwat said at a programme to mark the Sangh’s 100 years on Sunday, emphasising that the reality of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) cannot be understood from the outside. Some people mistake the Sangh for a paramilitary organisation, others for a service sector body, but the RSS is a social force working beyond these boundaries, he said, speaking on the theme ‘Sangh Yatra – New Horizons, New Dimensions’. “The world now hopes to see India in a leadership role once again,” Bhagwat said, as he called upon the gathering to empower society and the nation by joining the Sangh’s activities. While 193 PoPs have been hired in Maharashtra (193), Gujarat and Karnataka have appointed 179 and 170 professionals, respectively.
