‘They just keep throwing City a bone, don’t they?’

2 min readFeb 13, 2026 08:12 PM IST Arsenal drew their game against Brentford 1-1 on Thursday, keeping Manchester City interested in the Premier League title race. Arsenal are currently top of the table with 57 points, and Manchester City are second in the table with 53 points. Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley said that Mikel Arteta has the best squad in the league and should be easing through to the title, but they are throwing City a bone. “They just keep throwing City a bone, don’t they? [The loss to] Manchester United at home was unexpected. Couple of others like Forest away, Brentford also a good side, but they had won the last four there, if I’m not wrong. And they still keep throwing that bone City’s way just to keep them from being demoralised,” Burley said on ESPN. “When you put somebody seven, eight or nine points behind, it demoralises them as the chasing team. I’m not saying Arsenal are bad. They are the best squad in the country, best team in the …

‘Who would do 100 points now in modern football?’: Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola takes dig at Liverpool | Football News

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola took a dig at league leaders Liverpool’s title bid, saying that even if they do win the title, they won’t be able to touch 100 points, something that the Spaniard achieved with his City side in the 2017/18 season. “We took all the records in England. Who would do 100 points now in modern football? I’m waiting. Or four in a row? I’m waiting – with clubs like Bournemouth, Fulham and Wolves that you have to play,” Guardiola said on the eve of City’s match with Newcastle. “The standards, we dictated. Have you seen Liverpool this season? They cannot do 100 points already – 99 but not 100,” he added. Story continues below this ad City are currently 5th in the Premier League table with Guardiola’s side having a pretty dismal season according to their standards, even going on a losing streak. In recent weeks, they lost 5-1 to Arsenal and then in the Champions League 1st leg playoff, they were defeated by Real Madrid 2-3. Next week, if they …

Chelsea all at sea: Ponderous Pochettino, misfiring stars despite £1 billion in transfers and clueless American owner | Football News

Mauricio Pochettino was on a rambling roll after Chelsea’s loss to Wolves last week. His stream of thought went like this: “To be focused on playing football, you need to be free in your mind. You can’t be affected because of the stock market in New York or Tokyo, or the weather in I don’t know where because the farms cannot grow the cereals. That is why I keep my hair like this. It’s because I do not suffer for things that I am not in charge of. I only suffer for sport, for football, to try to improve the players, to give them good things. A good platform to win games. If there is no rain at my farm, I cannot grow the crops. You kill the business of my family on the farm and they need money. That is stress. With that, you can lose your hair. But I cannot lose my hair because the opponent was better than us.” Pochettino was trying desperately to get the point across that The Blues need …
