New Delhi: The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) on Saturday reviewed preparedness of states and Union territories for the rollout of the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 (VB-G RAM G), which will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) from July 1, officials aware of the developments said. Centre reviews states’ VB-G RAM G preparedness The new law raises the statutory guarantee of wage employment for rural households from 100 days to 125 days in a financial year. Unlike MGNREGS, which was demand-driven, the new framework provides for state-wise normative allocations fixed annually by the Centre. Union health secretary held a high-level review meeting with the states on Wednesday to assess preparedness and response measures regarding the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), according to people familiar with the matter. During the meeting, states and UTs were advised to ensure readiness at all levels. The health secretary, Punya Salila Srivastava, discussed the measures with health secretaries of all states and Union Territories. The health ministry reiterated that no case of EVD has been reported in India so far. However, following the declaration of Ebola as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO), the government has proactively strengthened surveillance and preparedness measures across the country as an abundant precaution. With summer setting in and drinking water supply emerging as a key concern, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to take advance precautionary measures to ensure that Mysuru district does not face a water shortage in the coming months. Presiding over a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority in his office here, Mr. Reddy reviewed the water availability in the KRS and Kabini reservoirs, and said the existing storage would be sufficient to meet drinking water requirements till the end of June.
