Eyes on Aiperi Kyzy and primed for battle

Delhi: The IG Stadium, over the last year, has turned into a base location for all the Indian women’s national camps. On Tuesday, selected wrestlers went through the grind of the trials. Reetika Hooda, going through the paces at the national camp, watched on. She did not have to go through the trials herself. A silver medal at the Asian Championships had earned Reetika a direct slot in the Indian team for the UWW Ranking series in Mongolia, which is to be held later this month. And it is a tournament that she is looking forward to. A consistent grappler Reetika, who represented India at the 2024 Paris Olympics last year, has been one of India’s most consistent grapplers over the last two years. Even as controversies gripped the sport on the sidelines, she stayed true to her craft. She had a good start to the 2025 season, clinching a silver medal in women’s 76kg at the Asian Wrestling Championships earlier this year. Using that result, Reetika seeks to up the ante and gather momentum …

Rajat Patidar Primed To Be “Front Runner In Captaincy” In Indian Cricket Team

IPL 2025: File photo of Rajat Patidar© BCCI/IPL Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar might not be having a good run in the role at home in IPL 2025 but his leadership has impressed former India player Robin Uthappa. Continuing their poor form at home, RCB lost to Punjab Kings by 5 wickets in a rain-curtailed game. It was a poor batting effort from the side as it posted only 95 for 9 in 14 overs after getting an invitation to bat first. PBKS reached home with 11 balls to spare in the game. After the defeat, RCB captain Patidar acknowledged that their batting performance was not up to par, with wickets falling quickly and a lack of partnerships. He attributed the decision to leave Devdutt Paddikal to the conditions favouring the bowlers. Despite the pitch, Patidar emphasised the need for the team to bat better and achieve a winning total. He commended the bowling unit for their strong performance and the batters’ intent, and recognised the need to address batting errors. “Initially, …

“Regret My Time In KKR”: India Star, Primed For T20 World Cup, Admits; Says, “Don’t Need Guidance Now”

A reinforced skillsets and the ability to perfectly read the ebbs and flows of a match have made Kuldeep Yadav a tough customer, but back in 2019 the left-arm wrist spinner felt the need of a guiding force around him as his form went south while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. Kuldeep had an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) surgery in 2020 but once he joined Delhi Capitals, his performance both for the national team and in IPL improved significantly, making him the first-choice spinner across formats. He has taken 41 wickets in 33 matches since joining DC and he spoke how things transformed since he worked for months under coach Kapil Pandey to develop new skills post the surgery. “In KKR, I needed guidance but now I don’t need it, as now I dictate terms. In 2019, Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni, his national team mentor) had retired that year and I needed guidance. The idea that I have now, has come with experience,” Kuldeep said about his success in the last one and half years. …

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: An Epic That Looks Primed To Stand The Test Of Time

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in PS-2. (courtesy: YouTube) Cast: Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj Director: Mani Ratnam Rating: Four stars (out of 5) With the scale and spectacle of the first part intact in every respect, the Ponniyin Selvan follow-up is shorn of the information overload that made huge demands on those segments of the audience that were not familiar with the long and eventful history of the Chola dynasty. The two parts are roughly identical in length but they differ in the matter of how the plot is underwired. Ponniyin Selvan-2 (PS-2) feels far leaner and more briskly paced than its predecessor. Palpably more straightforward, the PS-2 narrative, a Tamil historical epic released nationwide in multiple languages, is much easier to grasp and savour. But like the first part, it is frequently eye-popping in terms of its visual grandeur. Mani Ratnam’s measured directorial style ensures that the film is much more than just dazzling. It is consistently entertaining and engaging. PS-2 starts off with a lavishly …

Two-Time Finalist Ons Jabeur Primed For Grand Slam Breakthrough

File photo of Ons Jabeur.© AFP World number two Ons Jabeur said on Saturday her pair of 2022 Grand Slam finals have only increased her desire to finally lift a major trophy. The Tunisian top seed at the Adelaide International lost in three sets to Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon last July, then reached the US Open title match two months later, going down to Iga Swiatek. She said she was keen to take her game to the highest podium, starting at the Australian Open in January. “I was ready to win this year (2022), but it didn’t happen,” she said. “I’m doing everything possible to win a Grand Slam. I’m just going to go for it. “This year, 2023, is about just being free and playing my game. I’m glad I got the experience from two finals in a Grand Slam.” Jabeur, the first Arab woman in the WTA top 10, said she and her team laboured during the off-season to fine-tune her powerful game. “We’ve worked really hard to improve a lot of things, …
