Anusha Kutumbale, WTT Feeder Series Vadodara 2026 women’s singles finalist, and Priyanuj Bhattacharyya, WTT Youth Contender Vadodara 2026 boy’s U-19 singles winner, lead India’s host wild card entrant list as the hosts field a record 23 players in the main draw with a total of 33 entries in the WTT Star Contender Chennai 2026, Co-hosted by Ultimate Table Tennis, Sharath Kamal Academy, and Stupa Sports AI with the support of SDAT scheduled to be held at the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University from February 10-15. All the four host wild cards in the women’s singles category went to Indian paddlers with up and coming paddlers Anusha Kutumbale, Sayali Wani, Kavya Bhatt and Taneesha Kotecha getting the nod while Anirban Ghosh and Divyansh Srivastava joining Priyanuj in the main draw, while Frenchman Remi Betelu is the fourth host wild card entrant in men’s singles. Junior national champion Hansini Mathan, wild card entrant Sanil Shetty and mixed doubles combination of Payas Jain and Syndrela Das upset higher ranked opponents to advance to the second round of the WTT Feeder Series 2026 at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara on Friday. The 16-year-old Hansini, who holds the record of the youngest junior national champion in India, came up with her top game against world number 78 and third seed Yoo Yerin of Korea Republic to win 11-8, 11-3, 11-9. She will face Ryu Hanna of Korean Republic, who had to work hard to beat another young Indian star Tanishka Kalbhairav 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9 in the opening round. Hansini then teamed up with Sampada Bhiwandkar to upset third seeds Anusha Kutumbale and Baisya 9-11, 15-13, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10 in the women’s doubles first round. “Among the boys, there are three major players that impress me. Ankur, Abhinandh, and Priyanuj. These three I like and I think it will be a very very strong team at the U19 and we can really aim at winning medals at the world championships.” These were the words of Indian national table tennis coach Massimo Costantini back in January earlier this year. The 67-year-old Italian was speaking to The Bridge at the sidelines of the 2025 National Championships in Surat. Just over ten months later, Costantini’s words have turned prophetic. The three paddlers that he name-dropped in that conversation – Ankur Bhattacharjee, Abhinandh PB, and Priyanuj Bhattacharya – all combined to help India to win its first-ever team silver medal at the ITTF World Youth Championships on Tuesday. ITTF World Youth C’ships 2025: India U19 boys reach final for the first time in history; U15 girls win bronze

In a historic first for Indian table tennis, the country’s U19 boys’ team stormed into the final of the 2025 ITTF World Youth Championships in Romania on Monday. Up against a formidable opponents in the form of Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals, the Indian team comprising of rising stars Ankur Bhattacharjee, PB Abhinandh, and Priyanuj Bhattacharya registered a 3-2 win to advance to the gold medal match. India will now face Japan in the final on Tuesday. Bhattacharjee got India off to a good start in the semi-final, winning his first match against Hsu Hsien-Chia 3-2. Though Chinese Taipei drew level in the next match with Kuo Guan-Hong beating Abhinandh 3-1, Bhattacharya put India back in the lead with a hard fought 3-2 win over Lin Chin-Ting.
