Delayed aid, prolonged ordeal – The Hindu

Delayed aid, prolonged ordeal – The Hindu

Sandhya, in her 40s, insists she completed every dose of medication prescribed for her tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Yet, as she sits crouched outside her mud house in a remote tribal hamlet near Paderu in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, her frail frame makes her appear decades older than her age. Her struggle extends beyond the disease itself. Like, many other TB patients in the State, Sandhya has been waiting for financial assistance meant to support her through treatment, exposing the consequences of delays in disbursing aid to some of the most vulnerable patients. The disease is just one of the many hardships she carries. Sandhya, who was diagnosed with pulmonary TB in December 2025, is dependent on her elder daughter, the sole breadwinner for their family of four—Sandhya and her three children. Sandhya was placed on a regimen for drug-sensitive TB (DS-TB), which lasts for six months and includes four drugs. Her claim of completing the treatment, however, is denied by her neighbours, who say she stopped her medication in the second month after severe stomach …

Speaking to The Hindu, Head of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad Centre, S. Stella, said the delay was caused by a break in the monsoon’s progress and highlighted that the onset over Kerala does not necessarily guarantee continuous advancement across the country. “There was a lull in between. Onset over Kerala does not mean there will be uninterrupted progression. Depending on favourable wind conditions and rainfall, we can only say that the monsoon is likely to progress over the next three or four days. We cannot predict its movement well in advance,” she …

Delhi HC grants bail to Khurram Parvez Over Prolonged Incarceration

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez in a terror-conspiracy case investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), holding that his nearly four-and-a-half years of incarceration, coupled with the slow progress of trial proceedings, warranted his release despite the stringent restrictions on bail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). A Division Bench comprising Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Ravinder Dudeja allowed Parvez’s appeal challenging a December 13, 2024, order of the Special NIA Court, Patiala House Courts, which had refused him bail.
