Negative reviews, ‘controlled’ promotions ‘scare’ Hollywood blockbusters away from Cannes Film Festival 2026

It wasn’t long ago that Tom Cruise wowed the attendees at the Cannes Film Festival as Top Gun: Maverick premiered at the prestigious film festival. In the last decade, the latest Star Wars and Indiana Jones films have premiered at the French Riviera as well. But 2026 paints a different picture. Not a single Hollywood blockbuster is programmed there, raising questions about why US studios are ghosting the event. (REUTERS/Benoit Tessier) (REUTERS) Hollywood biggies give Cannes a miss While Cannes is always a celebration of cinema of the artistic kind, the big films – and their stars – help draw attention to the same red carpets walked by auteur directors and the casts of obscure arthouse productions. Priyanka Chopra’s Citadel S2 arrives without promotions or hype: How Prime Video dumped ‘world’s biggest show’ sneakily

It was an ordinary Wednesday, which, for entertainment journalists, usually means attending a screening or two and keeping a tab on upcoming releases in theatres and new releases on streaming. Amid this rush, a colleague, usually very tuned into what’s new, asked me incredulously, “The new season of Citadel is here?” Three years ago, when it was launched, Citadel was the biggest show in the world. It had the backing of the Russos, starred Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, and saw premieres across the world. Priyanka Chopra as Nadia Sinh in Citadel. Normally, I would chastise my colleague for being unaware of the arrival of its second season. But the blame does not lie with them. Citadel season 2 arrived as quietly as a whisper, without a hint of promotion, without the stars even talking about it, and with the streaming platform dumping it sneakily, almost like abandoning an unwanted pet in a box on the roadside. It is a jarring journey between two seasons, and not one without reason. The contrast between Citadel’s two …
