Veer Chotrani stuns India No. 1 Abhay Singh

India’s Veer Chotrani defeated compatriot Abhay Singh in the men’s Round of 64 at the PSA World Championships in Giza on Friday. Chotrani, ranked World No. 43, beat World No. 22 Abhay 14-12, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-2 to advance to the Round of 32, while Abhay exited the tournament in the opening round. The opening game set the tone for a tightly fought encounter, with both players exchanging points throughout. The opening game saw multiple game points, but Chotrani managed to take the lead at the crucial moment and won the round 14-12. Abhay responded strongly in the second game. Although it was closely fought, with both players repeatedly drawing level on points. However, towards the end of the round, Chotrani lost momentum, and Abhay took advantage to win the game 11-8 and level the match. The third game saw Abhay completely dominate proceedings. PSA World Championships 2026: India fields all-men team in Giza

The PSA World Championships, the most prestigious title in professional squash, returns to Giza, Egypt from May 8 to 16, 2026. Hosted at Palm Hills Sports Club, the event features a $1.403 million total prize fund ($701,500 each for men and women). The tournament follows a single-elimination knockout format with 128 players (64 men + 64 women) from over 50 countries. It is a pure knockout, one loss and you’re out. Players qualify through PSA World Rankings, Challenger Tour events, or Continental Qualifying tournaments. Egypt continues to dominate the championship with World No.1 Mostafa Asal and women’s World No.1 Hania El Hammamy. The defending champions are Mostafa Asal in the men’s category and Nour El Sherbini in the women’s category. India’s campaign India will have an all-men contingent this year as no Indian woman qualified for the tournament. Tanvi Khanna, the only Indian female participant in the qualifiers, was eliminated in the quarter-finals, resulting in no Indian women making the main draw.
